Introduction: Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem ~ Heroes of Light and Shadow ~ is the twelth installment in the Fire Emblem series. Marth is once again the main character in this remake of Book 2 of Fire Emblem 3: Mystery of the Emblem. Book 1 is not included as it is essentially equivalent to Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon.
While the game was never officially localized, it was recepted relatively well, carrying over some of Shadow Dragon's new features such as reclassing and wireless capabilities, while also improving slightly on Shadow Dragon's dark and dull atmosphere and its blandness as a remake.
The "My Unit" feature, later dubbed the Avatar by Fire Emblem: Awakening, debuted in this game, allowing the player to create a unit that would become a knight and accompany Marth on his journey.
