Chapter 13: In Search of Truth
Walkthrough
Outside Santaruz, we are mocked by a shadowy figure and then attacked by more bandits and mercenaries. When will it ever end?
We are introduced to two 'new' characters in this chapter, except they are hardly new at all, we know them very well from Lyn's mode. Serra and Matthew join the party and bring a new flavour to the troupe with his cheery demeanor and her bossy glower. A Healer and a Thief are always fantastic additions to the team, but they're not exactly new. Don't worry though, we will recruit a 'new' unit in this chapter.
We are positioned in the north-east of the map with two possible pathways to reach the castle. You can head south passing by the forts and heading east afterwards. Or else the other option is to head eastwards by breaking the snag that
leads to the village in the north east corner. From there you can head south to the castle by passing over another snag. The north east village is home to a Torch that will be given to you when you visit it, but more importantly, visiting the village is the trigger for unlocking Chapter 13x, the bonus chapter after this one.
The best option is to split into two groups, one smaller group will head eastwards over the snag. This can be comprised of as many people as you wish, I suggest just Dorcas or Bartre, or maybe both. The only enemies they will have to deal with heading on this route is a brigand with a Hand Axe.
The rest of your force should head south. There is a village to the south that gives you a Mine for the trouble of visiting it, a very useful item which might come in handy much later. The initial wave of enemies is not very difficult, it is the reinforcements that we need to watch out for.
Brigands spawn from the fort just over the bridge on the first two turns, and later on soldiers and archers appear from the southern forts. Be prepared for when these enemies spawn so that on the Enemy Phase these reinforcements are not in a good position to gravely damage one of your units.
On the other side of the bridge there is a Myrmidon called Guy. He is recruitable if you talk to him with Matthew. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, except that Guy is an enemy. Guy will attack any of your units if they come in range, and with the Killing Edge he is carrying, that could be horribly deadly. Luckily though, Matthew can move six spaces at a time, so we can leave him outside of Guy's attack range on one turn and then have him rush in and talk to him on the next. Otherwise use Marcus or Oswin as meatshields to lure him out and tank one of his attacks.
Once Guy has been recruited and the enemies over the bridge have been taken care of, it's time to deal with the pesky soldiers around the castle. Kill them with whoever you think needs the experience. Head to the shop and armory if you need to. Guy's Killing Edge is extremely good and you should save its uses for important situations, so I suggest buying Guy an Iron Sword in the armory. Once that is done it's time for the boss!

Hector's Wolf Beil is the best option here, it can take him down in 1 - 2 hits. Otherwise, you can use Eliwoods Rapier just make sure to heal after every fight as the bosses Steel Lance hits hard. Bartre and Dorcas can take turns swinging at him if you want but nothing will beat Hector's prowess. |
