Chapter 18: The Dread Isle
Walkthrough
Having battled our way past the enemy ship in the previous chapter we arrive on the Dread Isle. Shrouded in darkness this island of mystery houses our true enemy. Can we fight our way through the fog and breach the forces of the Black Fang, and find out what happened to Eliwood's father?
We have a new unit at our disposal at the beginning of the chapter. It's the pirate we didn't kill in Chapter 16x, Dart. He joins us with a torch that will come in very handy. Make sure to bring Florina with you on this map as a new character will appear that can only be recruited by her.
The enemies of this chapter are split across three different areas, directly south of us, on the eastern side, and on the little patch of land in the center of the map. Have a few fast units set up towards the north-east. There is a thief carrying a Torch staff in the north-east and he leaves the map via the southern area on turn 4, so if you want that Torch you have to work quickly. If you don't go towards the eastern side at all, the enemies over there will cycle clockwise onto the patch of land in the center.
The main concern about the chapter is that pirate reinforcements appear from the north east and north west corners of the map between turns 2 - 4. This means that somebody has to stay behind to defend Merlinus, Raven does an excellent job at this, but any sword user will do.
Split your force in two, one to head south, and one to break the snag over to the central patch of land. The southern group will have to face a lot of cavaliers so the lords weapons or weapons that are effective against horses are best. If not, lances will do the job just as well.
Move south, defeating the cavaliers, while the group in the center of the map has to deal with a shaman, a fighter and a few nomads. Send your healer with the group heading towards the center as they have the tougher group to face initially. Both groups will meet up in a turn or two so don't worry about losing out on the heals for the group that heads south.
On turn three, Fiora, a Pegasus Knight appears from the sea. She starts off a little bit left of the center of the map and immediately flies off to attack the closest thing in range. When she appears have Florina fly over and talk to her as soon as possible. If left unchecked, Fiora will just get herself killed.
The pirate reinforcements will appear but I'm sure you have this issue covered. Move the group that headed south eastwards, they will have to fight a few more nomads, some monks and a myrmidon but these enemies are no trouble at all, crush them and head for the boss.
N.B: To access the Gaiden Chapter you need to beat this chapter in 15 turns or less.

| Defeat |
A very tough boss, he's got high stats where it counts as he hits extremely hard. Your best bet is to make him use one of his bows, and then melee attack him with a bunch of your units.
If you still have any of the lords weapons still available, they are invaluable here. The Longsword acquired in the previous chapter works wonders here. Make sure to rescue or heal any units you think could be in trouble.
Keep attacking him and he will go down, he has no way of healing himself so any attacks you do land are permanent damage. |
