#126170 17 Years Later, and...

Posted by Rujio on 04 February 2016 - 05:26 PM

I think it's "normal" time right now except that we spend more time on daylight savings than normal? Because the sun sets super early on normal time here so I guess daylight isn't being saved (even though tbh it's way more important to me to have light when I wake up than when I'm eating dinner)

just in case you wanted an actual answer

which you could also google

since i'm only like 55% sure i'm write

#124850 > What Anime Are You Watching Right Now?

Posted by Rujio on 18 November 2015 - 10:45 PM

Madoka just gets intenser as you go. At episode 7 you haven't seen anything yet. Episode 10 changes everything. I will say, though, that the characters are not the show's strongest point. It's more the plot/world/devices they actually manage to pull off.

For the movies, the first two are just the series redone, but the third movie is a sequel. Which just messes things up at the end and doesn't actually resolve things really. But that's fine.

#123620 HD Fire Emblem Remakes

Posted by Rujio on 05 July 2015 - 11:42 PM

But if we're going to do a Tellius newthing, I'd like to get some real supports into RD (well, depending on style) and also the expanded script they had in Japan. Also fixing some of the dumb HM stuff (i.e. no weapon triangle and no enemy range) as well as general ease of use stuff. So maybe a kind of enhanced HD port?

#123598 Famitsu poll for most popular lord/main character

Posted by Rujio on 04 July 2015 - 10:27 PM

Not nearly enough Jugdral love for my tastes. The hell is Lyn doing at number 4?!

Apparently the Lyn disdain is local to FES. Leaf and Sigurd should be on that damn list!

Honestly I'm impressed anyone from Jugdral made it there. Like, those games came out on the SNES. I'm surprised that many people who have played those games are around and voting.

#123482 HD Fire Emblem Remakes

I can vaguely imagine a hypothetical Jugdral HD or, more easily, a Tellius HD that I would absolutely love, but I just don't see those happening, at least not without everything I liked about the originals being torn apart. FE5 isn't "fixable" in a way that makes it viable within the current FE framework (e.g. it's really not scalable), and any of the others would realistically have everything I like about them destroyed by the current trends in FE /melodrama

(Actually it would be interesting to see an MU placed into RD both to see how the route stuff is handled and also to see what a genuine Mary Sue looks like against Micaiah. Also it would be "interesting" to see if Micaiah's new design was more like her original or her Awakening DLC.)

#123127 What languages do you speak and/or understand?

Posted by Rujio on 12 June 2015 - 03:47 PM

Except if you want to learn Romance languages faster, you should just start with one. Spanish is going to help with Italian about as much as Latin, except that it's easier (for English speakers, at least), so you'll get to start Italian sooner, and also you'll know a useful, modern language before you even start Italian. Though spending a little time on Esperanto might actually be beneficial. Some studies have shown that doing something like 3 months of Esperanto and then 9 months of French will have you more proficient in French than just 12 months of French.

Not saying you shouldn't learn Latin, of course. I'm learning Irish, after all.

#122834 How do you feel about your Skill Level at Fire Emblem?

Posted by Rujio on 04 June 2015 - 03:39 PM

Yeah, FE13 HM doesn't seem hard (I'm guessing Lunatic is pretty much the real "hard mode" of the game by uh, more experienced players' standards), and buffed enemies is definitely the way a lot of games go for harder difficulties since it's easier, but it's kind of a shallow way to increase difficulty and I feel like a lot of the times it just comes down to patience (or having a good enough strategy or whatever that the increase in stats really matter). I do like when harder difficulties (for RPGs and even games in general) actually introduce new elements or more intelligent/complex AI, maybe with better skills or something too (uh, as far as FE goes, Lunatic+ skills don't really count to me, I'm thinking something more personalized and well thought-out, lol).

I mean, I get why it happens. It's hard to have strategic depth that challenges players like FE5 does while also having the game be accessible. But as it is, FE5 is by far my favorite as far as gameplay goes, though it of course has its problems, and if anything enemies are the easiest part of the game, not the hardest, and I do miss that. I think there's a problem with this whole "one size fits all" design. It means less fun for more people, instead of more fun for fewer people. Which, I mean, is a fair trade, and makes sense market-wise, but I am generally a depth over breadth and quality over quantity kind of guy.

Edit: Hey, this was my 1700th post!

#122810 How do you feel about your Skill Level at Fire Emblem?

Posted by Rujio on 04 June 2015 - 02:33 AM

Hmm, Awakening HM blind was a joke for me, and I absolutely loved FE5 blind* (*checked for things like warp tiles because they're dumb) so I suppose I'm pretty solid. On the other hand, I basically never play the highest difficulties because, well, they're pretty boring, IMO. In turn, I'm actually not awesome at dealing with super buffed enemies, which is pretty set as the way FE's going to do "dificulty" so...

#122647 Are you going to go M!Kamui or F!Kamui on your first playthrough?

Posted by Rujio on 01 June 2015 - 06:26 PM

What exactly is it about M!Kamui's design that seems silly to people when F!Kamui's doesn't? Isn't the only difference basically the terrible thigh holes?

On that topic, I plan on boycotting thigh holes (assuming I ever get to play the game; I don't have a 3DS), so I think I'm basically going to be doing guys+Rinka.

#122473 Irony and coincidence

Posted by Rujio on 30 May 2015 - 07:52 PM

Doesn't Latin make up, like, 10% of English or something? And even then, English is made up from a lot of words from other languages so yay

Most English words are French/Latin in origin, but most words we use in common speech are still Germanic. "Anglish" wouldn't be hard for most conversations. It would screw over anything academic, though.

It's also how definitions that could have been useful become obsolete without a decent replacement.

People are pretty good at understanding what's intended. We are way less specific about "love" than the ancient Greeks, for instance, but we get that people love their siblings and lovers differently. On the other hand, we have a bazillion tenses (run, ran, am running, will run, have run, had run, have been running, had been running, will have run, will have been running, and also in some dialects "do be running" [and possibly more mutations of that, not exactly sure] which is more-or-less the same as "go running" but applicable to any verb) while Vietnamese doesn't even have that concept - all of the preceding would be translated as the exact same thing (to the best of my understanding). And considering the number of meanings "ironic" can have anyway the subtle differences between ironic and non-ironic coincidences seems fairly unimportant to me.

#122339 Is SMTxFE too "anime" for you?

Posted by Rujio on 26 May 2015 - 01:25 AM

It's not really too anime for just its own thing, but as an SMTxFE game supposedly-

actually my biggest problem is just the zipper panties. Really WTF.

#121938 (LU 7/9) FEF News Thread - 3rd Route DLC Out in Japan

Posted by Rujio on 12 May 2015 - 06:00 PM

Gaiden had no weapon durability, and FE4 basically didn't have weapons disappearing when they broke. Both had a much more limited set of weapons available, in exchange, and I think it worked pretty well.

Phoenix mode is just a joke, though. Like, as long as Kamui doesn't die (and since Kamui's the player, we all know how OP (s)he'll probably be) you just win.

#121912 Re-Introduce Yourself!

Posted by Rujio on 12 May 2015 - 05:15 AM

Hey, I'm Rujio. I've been here forever, though not so much recently. Thus my member title is still from way back when we could mess with other members' titles. I joined back in '08, and actually I think I was briefly on FESIV (or whatever number) before this one (or the one before this or who knows). I was literally twelve. So, um, now I'm a college kid with a lot of interests. Linguistics, music, astrophysics, writing, etc. etc. etc. etc. I've played every FE at least partially (I really need to beat Gaiden sometime), as well as TRS (so hyped for the new Kaga game). I don't game too much nowadays. Mostly I binge game on breaks and then don't play again for three months, though with school ending that may change. Or maybe not. Life's gone a lot of unexpected directions in the past few years, without going anywhere at all at the same time, so who knows? You all can maybe look forward to seeing some music/writing from me, as well as random conversations (my sig could use some new quotes that don't reference 4+ year old conversations with people who probalby aren't around anymore) and of course some FE related talk.

#76715 FE debate anyone?

#48356 Anyone up for a debate?

I've got a bunch of spare time for the next few weeks. Anyone want to do a debate?
