From what I do remember, I had no problems up until chapter 5x in FE8, which is the first chapter you get to use Ephraim.

The only thing I could think of was possibly changing the Lords' Class Numbers to something else. Although I tried changing it back after, it didn't fix it. I'm assuming the edit I made already messed up the copy I had beyond repair. I did look over your tutorial and you did specifically state not to touch it.

So hopefully no one else will make this same error haha.

I only use nightmare and FEditor Adv.
And Usenti to make sure the portraits are within the constraints.

Which makes it very difficult to pinpoint exactly what I did.

Sadly, I don't have a back up before this error. It looks like i'll just be copying the edits on to a clean copy slowly, and keeping an eye out for that glitch.
