and its not the fear of what other people precieve people who might be pedophiles that stops them. its the fear of getting caught and punished that stops them.
Actually, I'm quite sure that a pedophile would be aware and probably ashamed of the kind of person that they are - there's a reason that pedophiles don't go around telling everyone that they're into kiddies.
That being said, the social acceptability of watching anime really depends on the kind of circles you move in. I have a bunch of white friends who would give me weird looks if I talked about how much anime I used to watch. Conversely, there's a bunch of friends that I have who wouldn't really care.
