WiiU emulator

Yep. Totally a thing now. Don't even try to play a game though. It doesn't even run homebrew at full speed right now afaik. Either way that was really fast. Most emulators don't pop up till after the console had been around for awhile. Either way it's pretty exciting news imo. I'll never be able to use it on my current setup(and probably wouldn't anyway tbh. I really don't like stealing from Nintendo. I don't mind ripping off Microsoft, but the big N really seems to care about its fans which means a lot to me)

Actually a real smart genius man, but I'll never show it.

In all seriousness though they actually make an attempt to listen to their fans most times. They don't really go about it the right way(looking at sales for what you develop isn't ACTUALLY listening to your fans), but I can see an effort. On the other hand back when the rpg lovers called for xenoblade chronicles to be localised in America it happened. That wasn't originally part of the plan. It took Sony how many years before they remade ff7 without just straight up doing a direct port?

that's pretty crazy, and in a way maybe slightly worrisome, haha, though I'll give that emulators can lead to some cool stuff--I don't think the WIi U has many games people would be interested in translating or the like but it could maybe lead to some cool Smash 4 mods (for fun only) and also, GAME PRESERVATION, since y'know, that's kind of cool/important (IMO)
Signature thanks to Shu.

Nintendo cares about its fans?
Given the treatment of the 6th Pokemon generation (my understanding is that items are almost impossible to transfer between games without having a lot of time and 2 3DSes...and here are insane restrictions between communicating from ORAS to XY), I think the answer is that they care JUST enough to make it a higher level of caring than other companies but not so much that we should really commend them for it.

From what I understand though the restrictions on communications were caused by things in oras that didn't exist in x/y.granted that could be fixed with an update(keep in mind that would be a pretty massive update though which could upset some people that would be incapable of downloading it due to lack of space), but still I don't think that it was on purpose.
Fanboy's gonna fanboy.
Fair enough on that thought. This is the first time they've ever introduced new Pokemon inside a generation that they didn't preplan.
It is an interesting conundrum though...Nintendo certainly never planned it out this way when we look at older intrageneration crossover but it looks like their approach is to just leave it alone as well. Even if it's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario, you'd figure the team would plan far enough in advance to at least put blank spaces in their old games to fill up if they needed to. Heck, data is cheap and the entire game is about 1.7 GB if memory serves. A small few megabyte update doesn't eat up that much of your memory card...at least from memory. It is probably a manageable process and really seems like the right thing to do since it's basically stating the alternative is dropping 40 bucks to keep playing with all the Pokemon (and a 2nd 3DS if you want to move your Megastones over since my understanding is Pokemon Bank won't let you transfer items). We could attribute it all to incompetency or perceived lack of value in not making a patch.

Edit:I'm forgetting something important here though. Namely that we're talking about Pokémon. People are gonna make room for am update.

The update would have to include models for new mega evolutions(plus kyogre and groudon's primal evolutions), data for movesets, certain hidden abilities that aren't available in X/Y, and they would have to update the pokedex as well. I really don't think it would be as small an update as you're thinking tbh. I still think that's the route they should have gone with though. Compatibility issues between the same generation are more than a little problem.
Looking at that, most of it is in the orders of KB to a MB of data provided Nintendo was smart enough to intentionally add in spare space, no? The effects of abilities and the core mechanics of moves are virtually nothing and their most intensive aspect is programming. What would really eat the space is our 3D models. And those I could see in around 100 MB range. (Source: I have none. Just purely guessing. But it can't be too much since they both have very similar block size allotments (14 000 vs 14 499 according to Google).
(Also, Pokedex? I'm not aware but are Mega Evolutions listed in the Pokedex?)
