A law recently passed in Texas requires any would be criminals to give future victims oral or written notice 24 hours in advance.

Anybody else know of some really dumb laws?

I really wish we had some lawyers on here. I hear there are all kinds of stupid laws nobody but them actually knows about but they never bother to elaborate when they mention it.

I think this one was Nevada: it is illegal to wear a fake mustache in church if it makes someone laugh.

In Alabama it's illegal to carry ice cream in your back pocket, and i believe in Florida is illegal to tie your pet alligator(or was it a crocodile? Can't remember) to a parking meter.

Aaaaaaaaaand I've got more. Oral sex and having thistles growing in your yard are both illegal in Maryland. Also in Athens Georgia you can't keep your donkey in a bathtub(because that's ever going to be relevant?)

Edit: it's also illegal to sing the alphabet in the streets at night in topeka Kansas.

Meh, i didn't want to start a new topic when this one was only two months old.

In Kansas, I believe, getting married on a dare is grounds for an annulment

That law in Kansas doesn't sound that dumb. I mean, sure, you'd have to be really stupid for the law to take effect in the first place, but I'm guessing that the law made itself because there were people dumb enough to do this (and probably during a time where divorce was more difficult.)

The oral sex one also isn't really unusual. When you actually think about it oral sex is extremely weird and defies hygenic sense(even moreso 100+ years ago), and even if it wasn't sex-restrictive morals are very widespread. Exactly how far anyone could actually enforce it is another matter, but it's existence is kind of "ehh this again?"

On that note there are many places where bestiality is legal. Bronies can rejoice.

On that note there are many places where bestiality is legal.

The Con. Law professor on my campus is famous for arguing that laws against bestiality are unconstitutional. Something to do with "well we don't ask for their consent to kill them and devour their corpses, so saying sex is somehow off the table is really inconsistent." But in, like, a trivia sense, not a "let's have sex with moose!" sense.

I just want to hear the stories behind some of the arbitrary ones like how it's illegal to keep a donkey in a bathtub in Athens Georgia. I mean, there has to be something there.
