Despite the holes in F!Kamui's armour I really like her design so I'm probably going to go her on first run. M!Kamui's design just looks silly to me so I probably won't choose him unless his customization options are really good.

as for who I'm picking, it's going to be Male Kamui on account of me preferring male characters over female characters. (I am male and only find it natural... I relate to them more etc.)
I might do a female run eventually, but only after I'm bored with Male Kamui runs. I generally don't like playing as female avatars. :\ doubt FEif will be an exception even if I kind of like female Kamui's design slightly better...

lol, I'm not sure if they're going to be barefoot the whole time, but perhaps it's just a temporary design thing for the concept art? or perhaps it relates to the fact that the appearance is customizable (perhaps even the boots are customizable, who knows LOL, don't think so though XP)

Unless Tsubaki turns out to be female(or I learn beforehand that his personality kinda sucks and the rest of the Hoshido boys aren't really cute enough), I'm going female. Gender has zero effect on relatability for me when it comes to characters that aren't specifically written for the purpose of showing the problem with social pressure via gender roles (and even then I might relate more to the girls BECAUSE REASONS) and I really doubt that My Unit of all people would have those kinds of issues. It becomes a problem when characters are too relatable too.
If you are going to let me make a personal character in a Fire Emblem game where there are supports AND where I will be pairing up all day AND where Awakening pretty much foreshadows having moar self-insert shallow romances, then this kind of thing is more relevant than ever.
Also unfortunately 99% of the time twintails are not an option for male character creation.

There is probably the existence of multiple body types for My Unit.

I have my hair up in twintails at home. It keeps my back cool and lets me pretend my youth isn't disappearing by the year. I need the option for immersion purposes.

I don't even know, honestly they're both pretty similar and it's not like they aren't customizable soooooooo yeah lol, at least for me it's not worth analyzing them too much since I can just change their appearance anyway
rofl @ the boycotting though hahaha, I do hope you get to play the game eventually, but still, that's funny--not in a making-fun-of-you-way, more like I kind of agree the "thigh holes" (hilarious/truthful name IMO XD) can be really silly as far as design goes and I find your blunt assessment/boycotting of it really amusing and worthy of props haha. I'll probably go male first because I style the protagonist after myself on my maiden run of any game involving character customization. After that, I'll just use whoever can get with the character I'm obsessed with at the moment.

FE12 and FE13 both had pretty powerful Avatars and I expect FE13 to be similar so I don't really feel the need to make things any crazier in that regard (like the Av is OP enough lol)

I've played too many MMOs to personally desire getting as OP as possible. (so much dickwaving in chat every single day...)
When I thought of a hypothetical Awakening character that I'd make as DLC or something, and intended on being as self-insert as possible about it, I ended up with a Trickster(who is meh at both physical attacks and healing) that starts out with the skills Despoil(not even useful with The Golden Gaffe) and Dual Guard+ just because I figured it fit my personality best. I could have designed a Dark Flier with Galeforce/Shadowgift/Vantage/Ignis/Dragonskin or something like that, but none of those actually represent anything I want (except maybe Dragonskin.)
