warning: crazy cat lady topic

Basically for you going "wtf is a cat cafe" - it's designed for people who live in things like apartment buildings who can't have their own pets so they can basically rent a time slot to go in and play with cats that live in a "cafe" type setting. CATS EVERYWHERE!!!!!!

I went to one last month on my birthday (and it was the best birthday ever fyi) because it was my dream since I found out one opened up in Australia (Melbourne - other side of the country for me) and I went a bit mental, to be honest (tried to get a selfie with every single cat). And now, they are opening one up closer to me in Perth which I am very excited for because it's easier to get to Perth than Melbourne. 14 cats at the one in Melb but I think they've got even more now. The best thing is they're all adopted cats so they have somewhere nice to stay with lots of food and attention. As far as the cafe side of things goes I'm not sure about others but Melbourne's only served snack type things that were all pre-packaged and the only thing they actually made was the coffee. Understandable as there would be strict regulations and guidelines about what they can actually serve since the cats pose a huge hygiene risk.

So, has anyone else been to one? Or would you like to visit one? There are a lot of them in Japan but outside of there I'm not really sure how common they are, but the Perth one will be the second in Australia. It's not opening until September, boo.

on another note do you guys reckon I should have my hens/bachelorette party there or what best idea ever right

If I didn't already live in one I would probably go crazy trying to figure out how to get to one. The local pet store actually has something similar. It's a super tiny room that has nothing but cats in it. And the best part is that half the room is divided into a play room for about 15 kittens. It's literally the most adorable thing on earth.

Fortunately though I already have 6 cats. No need to pay to play with them.

oh my god you are so lucky I would have 20 pet cats if I were allowed

there are cat cafes outside of Japan?

like I don't even rationally think I should be that surprised but that isn't stopping me from WTFing all over this phenomenon (outside of Japan and maaaaaaaaaaaaybe South Korea)

I had never heard of these before and I don't own a cat or a pet at all so I don't think I'd use one XD. If there was one here I might go to one just to see what they're like but I don't think I'd be overjoyed like some of you are. One thing I didn't get from your post, can you just go to this cafe if you didn't leave a cat there?

BTW, I take map requests if anyone wants to make one XD, just send me a PM and I'll most likely accept. If you wanna see some of previous work you can visit my gallery here, I'd skip to the end because I've improved alot XD.

y dus this surprise you so much??!?!! It was a big thing here when the one in Melbourne opened and bookings are entirely necessary otherwise you probably won't be able to get in unless you're lucky as hell.

oh I think you're a bit confused about cat cafes - they're not shelters for cats and you can't leave your own cat there. Basically, the people who run it have all these cats that you can go and play with if you pay for some time. When I went it was $10 per person for an hour which isn't really too bad.

honestly more than anything I'm wondering why these things always feel the need to be cafes

like that food regulation problem wouldn't even be one if it wasn't a cafe

@snow have you never played with a cat? It's fantastic. Spend 5 minutes with a kitten and you'll never want to be without one again. Unless you're allergic. Then I guess you might not want to be around them too much.
