[Fire Blazer]

OK, another thread I want to make! So after the recent direct:

 

 

My hype for Splatoon has come back and I'm actually kinda excited to play it! Thing it, it doesn't seem like very many people I know are getting it at launch. It's a new IP and all and quite a few people aren't fans of shooters (I mean, Nintendo's not exactly known for their shooters either). That being said, is anyone here going to get it? If so, we should play, somehow or another~! It looks like a fun game, I hope I actually enjoy it as much as I... well, hope I will! (meaning quite a bit!) XD

 

Oh yeah, if you're interested in trying out the game and have a Wii U, they revealed there's going to be some kind of "Global Testfire" or something where you can try out the game during select hours! The demo app thing is already up on the eShop so you just need to download it and then launch it during one of those hours, I think. We'll see how it goes, I'm curious to see how the game actually plays and all! And I hope the game ends up being great and sells well (though yes, the lack of voice chat is a bit of a bummer).

Oh hell yeah, I am pretty hyped for Splatoon and I made sure to download the "demo" for it as soon as I got home from work. I'm excited to test it out! I already have it preordered on Amazon but I'm sure this testfire will definitely push me over to making it a must buy and recommending it to as many friends with Wii Us as I can. I know a lot of people who have played it already at conventions and they're super excited for it which just makes ME super excited for it!

So the demo was pretty awesome, I tried it for about 1.5 hours so far

 

I've been talking a bit on Skype about it, here are some comments on paint rollers and motion controls:

[8:08:41 AM] ballin1337: but the speed at which they can spread ink is definitely borderline stupid, and again, it's worse on the warehouse stage IMO because you can't break through as easily

[8:10:07 AM] ballin1337: also I finally saw some people try to camp a spawn point, that is B.S. hahaha
[8:10:41 AM] ballin1337: but it is partially the rest of the team's fault for failing to A) properly ink the spawn point and the area around it and defend the home area from someone trying to sneakily paint roll through it
[8:11:03 AM] ballin1337: anyhow, what it seems like is you want at least one paint roller on your team, but 3-4 can be ineffective
[8:11:43 AM] ballin1337: 1-2 is great because you can have them spread ink with supporting fire and such (as I said, I'm generally getting high kill tallies with the splattershot, and mostly because of noobs trying to use the paint roller)
[8:12:49 AM] ballin1337: (if you keep killing them and don't let one sneak onto your side and have others jump to them, then you can force them to walk their way back and in doing so they'll just continue to paint roll their already inked side, instead of your side)
[8:13:43 AM] ballin1337: (but it forces you to be good and play somewhat offensive; you need to first secure more of the field, then "hold the line" and prevent them from breaking through, because if they do, it only takes like 10 seconds to ink enough to change the tide of battle)
[8:14:28 AM] ballin1337: also, I found it easier to use the motion controls than to use use just the right control stick
[8:14:40 AM] ballin1337: the sensitivity on the right one was way too high for me to accurately aim with just the stick
[8:14:54 AM] ballin1337: I found rotating my head with the right stick and changing my aim by tweaking my hands and the GamePad worked wonders
[8:15:13 AM] ballin1337: unless I was caught off guard I could pretty much aim and follow someone as they're moving, shooting them and killing them
[8:15:34 AM] ballin1337: I just need to perfect it a bit because I had several times where I got killed just as I killed them, due to not being fast enough and letting them get too close

Didn't get to try the demo because gamepad required and mine is special and not working. Hopefully by the actual release, I'll have that fixed.

yeah that stinks, sorry it didn't work out. admittedly I get why the GamePad is required but somehow I think it'd be a more approachable title if it wasn't since some people don't like the GamePad. I'm personally a fan though (it feels great with the GamePad IMO). Just thinking more options = better when possible. With the whole super jumping to people on the map thing it'd be hard to implement that in-game for other people without a second screen though.. but at the same time that feature is great, so I wouldn't want it removed. T_T can't win >_<

yeah the times were a bit all over and there were only 3 hours so I know for a lot of people it just wasn't feasible to make it >_<; it'd be nice if they had one more round of the testfire this weekend but eh, the game will be out in 2-3 weeks anyway (May 29th) so at worst we just have to wait a bit, haha

My friend was able to get into one of the testfires and she enjoyed the hell out of it and she typically has anxiety when playing competitive shooters and things like that, but she powered through it and had a blast and I'm excited to play it with her~

oooh that's awesome, it does seem like a more approachable game in general because it's got a bit of a lighter atmosphere and you can still contribute without actually being aggressive about "killing" other people (or rather, in this game, the best player can be the one who doesn't get any kills XD)

 

they're having another testfire soon and it seems to be a stress test for the servers because it's only for an hour, haha, but it'd be cool if people could get on it anyway, I'm going to try to~

I'm going to definitely try to get into it. I'll be available for about half of it though, but that's good enough for me.

I think it only takes 1-2 games to get a solid grasp over things, so that should be enough to at least get a feel for how it plays. if it helps (though you may already know this), you can turn off motion controls (and tweak some other settings, I think) before you play!

yeah only one person can play at a time online so sharing is kind of inconvenient

That video was pretty funny. I'm not surprised that is on the internet though. I recently found a video of the Thomas the Tank Engine theme mixed with Space Jam all on the Bike Horn. If that's on the internet, there probably isn't much else as weird as that.

My convincing skills are lack luster. Attempts to get my cousin to buy Splatoon have not worked.
