So, anyone got any of these? I didn't really care about them/have any interest of them because we haven't got a Wii U/N3DS yet but my sister and her husband keep bothering me about them so I just bought Marth and Ike from eBay which took up my weekly spending money - $50 each. If I had paid more attention to them before I would have bought them sooner.

At this stage the only one's I'm really interested in are the FE ones but I wouldn't mind a Zero Suit Samus. Apparently Robin and Lucina just came out/are coming very soon so I am hoping they have them in stock somewhere in town for the retail price which is what, $17 or something?

As someone who collects figures I wasn't really impressed with the quality of them but whateva. Bit overhyped.

I don't think they're mainly there to be seen as 'figures' as more as like a physical representation of data that you're using. Haha. They're main selling point is the connectivity that they can be used with games and people want them all so they can unlock the most out of their games which I find odd.

Ah well, I picked up Ike, Mega Man, Sheik and my girlfriend Zelda. :D

Yeah my brother in law made a point that the kind of figures I buy are for display purposes, whereas the amiibos are designed to be more robust as they're probably going to get used and knocked around and all that kind of thing. What happened to da days where when you bought a game you got the whole game? :<

That being said, if I actually decide to use them for what they're made for I think I'll buy a common one from the shop or whatever to open up and take out of the box. At this stage the FE ones are for collection purposes only considering how much I'm buying them for.

actually do the different characters do different things or do they just look different and they all level the same?

They all level the same, pretty much, in SSB4 but they can be used in other games to unlock other things as well. For data purposes though, using them for a game that causes them to SAVE data can only be used for one game at a time. Like if I used Mario, I can use Mario in SSB4 but would have to delete the data on there already if I were to use him for Mario Party 10. I would NOT have to delete data if I used him for Mario Kart 8 for example, because it's only reading data and not overwriting data. <:

I only got a Sonic amiibo (there wasn't anything better available) just for the sake of owning one.

I haven't bought one yet because I haven't seen them anywhere. Gamestop and Walmart were both completely sold out when I checked last time(which really surprised me considering I don't live in a place with tons of gamers)

I don't have a Wii U or New 3DS yet, so I've held off on buying them as well. Should one out for a character I'm obsessed with (ROB comes to mind) and not be too expensive, I'll likely grab it.

Probably people buying as many of them as possible for the stupidly high resale value. I really can't believe how much they're going for on eBay etc.

If they announce a ROB one I would probably recommend pre-ordering it or something asap because I think even pre-orders sell out stupidly fast as well

wait a min i am confoos

so, if I had data on a Mario for SSB4 that was saved on there I could still use that Mario for Mario Kart 8 with the same data or would it have to re-write over it??

You could use it for MarioKart without deleting the data because it's only reading the fact that the amiibo is there rather than saving data linked to that amiibo like ssb4.

I don't have smash or a WiiU so I can't buy one TT_TT If I did have a WiiU I would probably buy Pit, Mario (Dr. if it exists) and maybe megaman (wolf doesn't exist anymore right?).

on the topic of amiibos in general, some people value them as collectible figures, and other people value them for the extra content they unlock (which annoys some people when the amiibo is just being used to unlock content that isn't obtainable otherwise). as far as quality goes, the quality for them given the price is outstanding and I don't think it should be criticized: given they're supposed to sell for $13-14 they have quite a bit of detail and you're getting these for many characters that have never had any figure selling at retail for them before. It's an opportunity for Nintendo fans to get a hold of their favorite characters in figure form which simply might not be possible at all (forget for a decent price) without amiibo. so yeah.

granted, due to demand vastly outstripping supply and scalpers, you can't find about half the amiibos anywhere near the price they should be (if at all), but that's a different matter (a rather annoying one, but yeah...)

I only got a Sonic amiibo (there wasn't anything better available) just for the sake of owning one.

lolSonic, srsly Cero

anyhow, nice to hear you finally got one

I haven't bought one yet because I haven't seen them anywhere. Gamestop and Walmart were both completely sold out when I checked last time(which really surprised me considering I don't live in a place with tons of gamers)

not sure where you live but Best Buy and Target also carry them. I'm not sure when you went but at least ones like Mario and Pikachu and such tend to be relatively common, so I'm surprised you didn't find any o_O

I don't have smash or a WiiU so I can't buy one TT_TT If I did have a WiiU I would probably buy Pit, Mario (Dr. if it exists) and maybe megaman (wolf doesn't exist anymore right?).

that's not true in the least, there are people without a 3DS or Wii U that buy amiibos just to collect them. they don't have to have a console to be used on for you to buy them. it's the same concept as buying a game without owning the console.

that aside, the reason why you don't have a Wii U is because you waste all your money on dumb consoles like the PS4 *shot*

EDIT: oh and Pit exists but is somewhat rare I think, Mario exists and is relatively common, Dr. Mario isn't out yet but should be eventually, Mega Man exists and is not common enough to be at retail price on amazon but isn't unattainably rare, and Wolf isn't in Sm4sh, no, so unless he comes back via DLC, or he's in the new Star Fox and they decide to make amiibos for that, he probably won't be getting an amiibo anytime soon

no best buy or target unless i feel like driving for about an hour. the closest stores that will carry them are walmart, gamestop, and hastings which i haven't checked yet. they should have some, but it's the only geek shop in town(it's quite literally the one place to buy anime, manga, figures, other assorted useless stuff i love having) so i wouldn't be suprised if they were sold out too.

What happened to da days where when you bought a game you got the whole game? :<

Games used to be significantly less expensive to create relative to how much they sold for. Even when DLC wasn't really much of a thing there was content designed for a game that could only be unlocked by specific means, though.

It's very difficult for me to get upset over the business side of console games these days when smartphone games are screwing over the potential market for console games. (Smartphone games can also be a whole lot worse about how they get money from their players.)

Well, I just managed to snag THE LAST ROBIN from Target. Go me. The lady working there said they were the ones they just got in on Saturday and weren't likely to get any more in ever. They had a lot of the other ones so I bought a Pikachu as well which I think I will probably just open and use normally. Now it is my mission to hunt down a Lucina and things will be ok.

Also bf stopped me from buying a whole lot of them and reselling them even tho I had eBay open in front of his eyes proving they sell for a stupid amount more than RRP fdskjljflkjdsfljldksjfljdslfkjdljldksfds I mean rly I could have gotten Charizard and made many profit $$$

ahh ok, that's unfortunate :(

eh that's not that odd, most of mine are still unopened and from what I see a lot of people in general don't open theirs lol. I'm personally willing to open most of them eventually when I need them, but there are admittedly a few I'd like "collectors" versions of (in the original boxing), if only I could afford it. as of right now I don't actually have 2 of any amiibo though so unless they get seriously restocked later, it's doubtful I'll actually have any amiibo preserved in "mint" condition for a collection lol

wait where do you live again? ... Australia, your profile says... yeah Robin, Lucina, and other wave whatever amiibos (wave 4 I think) aren't out here and won't be out for like, another month, so that's a thing. kind of annoying/dumb but whatever, can't be helped much. and supply is awful given demand so pre-orders sell out within hours or minutes (depending on the type and such) and it's pretty much impossible to get the amiibos you want unless you have no life and/or lots of money, lol.

Hey man I said before I ordered Ike and Marth for $50 each from eBay :< Not even that unreasonable of a price compared to some I've seen. I will be pre-ordering ZSS and Ganondorf (this dood will be for a friend) next week sometime, hopefully they won't sell out in the meantime. Although, I do wonder if the quantity manufactured is dependant on how many pre-orders are made and then they just make extra to stock in stores.

idk what your point is with the first couple of sentences

as far as supply goes, it seems like the actual issue is literal inability to produce enough; like, factories and such can only make so many amiibos and you have to consider production limits esp. when it's said that some parts are done by hand. in other words, I think the issue is that pre-orders are selling out because they're not using them as a basis to make stock, they're already producing as much stock as they reasonably can... or something

or they're not, and Nintendo should increase production on these to max, because it's kinda messed up if you can't even pre-order stuff way before it's out due to supply issues that could be helped, IMO >_>;
