From all the games you've played which are your favorite playable character, good NPC and evil NPC.
For me it's:
PC- Master Chief from Halo. I love Chief's man of action not words personality. Plus if you've read the books you know just how smart and what an amazing leader he is.
GNPC- Tiny Tina from Borderlands 2. Play the game and you will immediatly understand why. She is just so unbelieveably funny.
ENPC- Revolver Ocelot from Metal Gear Solid- he starts off as a hot head with the " I'm the greatest soldier ever attitude" then over the course of the series he becomes that soldier he thought he was at the start

So how bout ya'll?

PC: torneko taloon from dragon quest 4 and his various mystery dungeon games

GNPC: you know that pegasus knight that shows up in fire emblem games just to deliver a message, and not do anything useful at all? i like her.

ENPC: Shadow Kanji from persona 4. i couldn't help but laugh throughout every cutscene in the steamy bath-house. it was just so over the top.

Come on guys! At least explain your choices otherwise these "favorite" topics won't drum up any discussion.

I guess one of my favorite video game characters would be Dunban from Xenoblade chronicles. The game does such of good job painting him a huge badass. From how the introduction of the game is you playing as him in a war, to his return to your party. The guy just oozes badass. He also is a very good leader, beign able to take charge when spoilers happen and say some inspirational stuff on top. To top it off, he and Riki just have the best interactions.

I guess I like torneko because he had those funny attacks in dq4.like making jokes, or falling over. He was just a funny character.

Riku from KH. He seems the quiet type, and often dwells upon his past sins with regret, but despite all of that, when his friends need him the most he is there. He isn't transparent, and I like him because he grows every game. Also, he has the coolest keyblade I guess.

Assuming the title meant "Favourite Game Characters (which were originally from a game)"...as the Super Robot Wars franchise and licensed games makes it possible for me to built a list almost purely anime characters...

PC:  Seriously.  9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors spoiler.

Spoiler

If not, I really badly want to say Frederic Chopin from Eternal Sonata because it's Frederic Chopin.  How often do you get to play a famous musician in a JRPG?  But that game didn't really do too much with it and he really wasn't focused on at all aside from being the final boss.  I might say Lloyd Irving past that since he is one of the few characters to play the "Idiot Hero" concept correctly.  That is to say that he actually isn't ever entirely an idiot and grows into a character far beyond that trait.

Good NPC: I'm tempted between Cordelia from Fire Emblem Awakening or Yukiko Amagi from Persona 4 for very similar reasons: they're characters I can see and understand at a level beyond knowing their mentality.  I can understand most characters and see the basis of their creation.  I can even often work out a basic Myers-Briggs simplification of them.  But these two characters go beyond that since I build in my own understanding of their history with how I have seen and felt the same.  Seeing parts of myself play out in other realities is a strange and almost awkward situation...but I can't help but let it fascinate me.

Cordelia is a true and unrelenting perfectionist.  I've said it many times on this forum under its old build: she is a character abjectly afraid of failure.  She has grown up knowing that she's stellar at virtually everything she does.  So being told even being average is a word that hurts.  So she goes out seeking approval, seeking the gold sticker on her efforts.  Society then turns and gives her what she wants and thinks "well, if you're good at [x], how about [y]?".  And so she goes after it hoping she'll be told she did a good job.  Then the cycle continues.  Anything outside of that will wait until she knows she can do it perfectly.  This seems through her character far more than that silly Chrom quirk (another aspect which can be explained through this viewpoint.

And there are parts of Yukiko which I see playing out similarly for me.  I could write an entire strange and slightly esoteric essay on this (getting into personal things far beyond what I'd be comfortable saying on a forum) but suffice to say, it's at least somewhat similar to the above.

Evil NPC: Danganronpa spoilers.

Spoiler

If not, Joshua Graham from Fallout: New Vegas.  It starts with that backstory and ends with that amazing gun.  First, the name.  A Light Shining in Darkness.  I can't describe how poetic that sounds.  Then comes the fact that the creators lovingly added Greek on: καὶ τὸ φῶς ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ φαίνει καὶ ἡ σκοτία αὐτὸ οὐ κατέλαβεν, a Biblic quote (translated, of course).  Then comes the strange atoning man you meet.  One which admits he's been baptized in water, then in fire.  One which may or may not realize he's a villain until you help but knows he's beyond the point of rdemption.  One which is physically more resistant than every other character you meet despite wearing some very basic armour.  One which, interestingly, provides one of the most badass lines you'll ever hear in my opinion: I survived because the fire inside burned brighter than the fire around me. I fell down into that dark chasm, but the flame burned on and on.

Also, being voiced by Keith Szarabajka helps.

Sure, he's technically not pure evil when you meet him...but his actions qualify his as one.

I'll give you that what he did while serving Caesar was evil but I never thought of Graham as a villain. I thought of him as his gun implies, a light shining in darkness. When everyone else was concerned only with their own survival and a lust for power Graham was helping others survive. Specifically tribals who otherwise wouldn't have much chance of survival in the wasteland with groups like the Legion, the NCR, and to a lesser extent the Brotherhood of Steel around. I just find it very interesting how we categorized him so differently.

I think we agree for the most part.  I call him an "evil" NPC because that's what he is to start; he's not very different from Caesar in so many ways.  I mean, Caesar is a villain but he's ultimately interested in unifying people...under his horrific banner.  I think Graham even admits that he forgot all about his background until he left the Legion so it's a very possible inference that Graham was just as bad as Caesar.

The differences appear when the Legion abandons Graham.  He realizes his flaws and attempts to atone for his past mistakes.  And, while he plays an anti-hero in the story segment you see him, he's still never fully atoned by his own admission.  I would argue you can egg him to become a slightly more aware villain if you make the right (or wrong depending on your point of view) choices.

I've found the text of the gun (that is, the verse) a better description of Graham: that light shines in darkness but darkness cannot comprehend it.  I figure it's The Courier's job to assist Graham in interpreting error of his ways.  To make that light shine through and to make his divine mandate surpass his Templar-esc tendencies.

PC: Going to split it up. A little.

For those where you 'are' the character: Hawke from Dragon Age 2. No matter how you played, you grew to know a person who was thrown around by life, no matter what they choose. I found it an interesting take on the 'your choice matters' - It does matter on the small-scale, but some things happen that you just can't change, no matter which way you go.

For just a character you control: Ooh, toughie. I'll get back to this.

NPC (Good): *To do*

NPC (Bad): *To do*
