I've been meaning to try my hand at a tabletop RPG (think DnD, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulu, etc) for quite some time, and I only just had the idea to ask here. We could host it through Skype text chats or something with relative ease. I've never played one myself, but I would try my hand at DMing if nobody else wants to/has experience with doing so. If you're even slightly interested, please let me know! No experience with roleplaying is required, just come ready to have fun.

Would anyone be interested in a DnD-style game?

I would love to try it, actually have some dice that my cousin gave me but none of my classmates have time to play XD

This won't be removed until Chile wins the World Cup - Started 24/06/12
BTW, I take map requests if anyone wants to make one XD, just send me a PM and I'll most likely accept. If you wanna see some of previous work you can visit my gallery here, I'd skip to the end because I've improved alot XD.

I'll keep that site in mind, thanks! Looks like we'll have enough people to go for it with one or two more signups.

I would love to try and give it a go! I haven't played D&D in a long long looooong time though so I'm sure I forgot a lot of things. I should really look into getting all the dice and books and everything together...

made me promise to never tell but you know me, i can't help myself

That's alright, I haven't done it at all yet, haha. I'll try to have all the required resources ready by the time we get one more person and are ready to start, and I'll link everyone to them when I get them.

I was waiting for you to respond, haha.I don't recall if you outright said that you had experience with tabletops, but I had a feeling.
Now then, it seems as though Roll 20 is definitely a site worthy of using, though we may also need Skype for chatting as Zac mentioned. It sounds like everyone registering for both, assuming they haven't already, would be a good place to start. If anyone who has experience wishes to DM, then by all means, go ahead. Otherwise, I'll study up for that.

Not much in the way of experience (I think the most I've had is a 3 hour session in grade 11 that turned into an absolute mess. We had our chaotic evil guy bluff he was lawful good and we basically went Three Stooges style through a door to beat some zombies).
That said, I'm also pretty familiar with quite a few rulebooks (I use them to practice understanding my characters and I often have that "roleplaying for one" mindset). Much less good with D&D and Pathfinder (or D20 in general) but I could certainly see if I have any tips if you're working other systems (goes back and checks...yup. Still have my old Call of Cthulhu character sheets).
How much I can help out depends on what you want to play...I certainly know a few rulebooks well (CoC, Cyberpunk 2020). Others, less so.
Either way, be sure to know what type of game we're playing first...if you want something positive, CoC is not the way to go. A hard GM basically means you're going to be re-rolling and retiring characters often. It certainly isn't a combat engine either since you'll easily create total party kills in it. Same with Legend of the Five Rings to a degree...real fun world to play but fights can easily end in one round under basic settings.

Good point. I ended up in a CoC game that almost had an entire session once, and... yeah. Sticking with something basic, like a one-shot campaign of something that isn't CoC, is probably the best way to start.

Well, there are some games out there which are very much "you can play out of the box" type of games. Mekton has a couple campaigns where they hand hold you through the entire process (and even force your players to not act while the villain goes through an entire monologue).
Part of the fun as a GM though is to see where things go when they take unexpected turns. It's very much a world building experience and you have to know the ins and outs of it.
I'd recommend we do something light and silly like Maid RPG or Teenagers from Outer Space if the GM is looking for experience in that regard as the fun will be more player driven and less intensive on the GM. It'll still give the GM a great introduction on how to keep players in line a bit but the players will interact with each other more than the GM's world. And the GM can mask scramble situations with humour.

That sounds pretty ideal. I'll look into those and report back once I'm a bit more ready to host something. In the meanwhile, if anyone else has suggestions/comments/etc, now would be the time for them.

Since I'm still trying to stay off Skype, has everyone read the rules yet?

To keep it short, things came up, but they should be resolved now. Is everyone still up for TFOS?
