So we're finally getting this underway.
 
Tournament Rules

- 3 stock, 8 minutes. Each set is Best of 3. Finals is Best of 5.
- Single Elimination (lose one set and you're out)
- Maximum Number of Participants: 16
- No character restrictions
- You may change your character in between matches.
- Items must be turned completely off!
- Each match can be played on one of the following stages. The stage selection process is as follows: higher person on the bracket goes first and bans one stage for 3DS, two stages for Wii U, bottom person chooses from the remaining two. Loser chooses from Starters or Counterpicks (but you cannot choose the same stage twice unless both people agree on it), and the loser chooses again for the 3rd match, if there is one. Thus it is important you are communicating with the player you're playing against while playing. Feel free to use the FES Shoutbox or IP Chat to communicate with your opponent.

 

3DS: Battlefield, Final Destination, Yoshi's Island, and any Omega stage (counts as the same as FD).

Counterpicks: Arena Ferox, Prism Tower

 

Wii U: Battlefield, Final Destination, Town and City, Smashville, and any Omega stage (counts as the same as FD).

Counterpicks: Lylat Cruise, Duck Hunt, Castle Siege, Halberd.

 

- No custom movesets as it is too difficult to discern no one's using custom equipment either. Maybe next time, custom users. Sorry!

- Also don't get salty, this is just supposed to be some fun.
 
Prize: Something Fire Emblem-related worth $40 or less including shipping costs, shipped to anywhere I'm capable of shipping for that price. I reserve the right to substitute the prize or refuse it for any reason (not that I intend to, but yeah, it's a safety measure). Blazer and Shu aren't eligible for the prize. Other rules may apply, idk. It's ultimately about having fun, the prize is just secondary motivation. Oh yeah, and the prize isn't necessarily given to the winner. It will be a "lottery prize" where all eligible participants in either competition have an equal chance of winning (1 entry per person though). So don't be a jerk about winning, it doesn't get you anything. - Blazer

When signing up for the 3DS tournament put your FC down as well, for the Wii U tournament give us your NNID.

 

Deadline for Registration: April 14th, 2015 unless we don't have enough people by that date.

Tournament Time: April 15th - April 30th, 2015 - Finish your matches in a timely fashion (ideally within a couple days of you knowing when the match takes place) or you risk being disqualified in order to keep the tournament going. Please don't be one of those people and instead, make a serious effort to finish your matches.

I mentioned this in a different thread recently, but I suppose I'll mention it in here for convience sake. My current internet connection isn't really stable enough just from a computer standpoint, let alone online from a 3DS. lol

 

If the tournament gets pushed back or something (like if we were waiting for more entries or something), I'll be sure to update if I ever get a better internet connection (which I suppose could happen within a month or two depending on how events in my life may go). If I do get better internet before the tournament kicks off I'll enter, but don't push back a tourney for just my sake if people wanted to play earlier.

Question about character restrictions: Will custom moves and equipment be allowed? Or is it assumed that everyone will be using the default move sets (and no equipment)?

 

Also, when will this start? I want to join the 3DS tourney (since it's the only version I have right now), but I'm usually busy with work most nights.

They should sign up on the forum. It's kinda annoying/dumb when people try to join and they're not even here/active enough. It's hard to get into contact with them and things become more roundabout and annoying. So yeah, they should be a member and actually post here to sign up. Even if that means creating an account.

If we allow Mewtwo, worst-case scenario is he turns out to be broken and 90% of the tournament is Mewtwo dittos/Mewtwo stomping everyone else.
It's an unlikely scenario, because they've probably been doing balancing.

Regardless, the prize doesn't necessarily go to the person who places highest; it's all in fun.

However, if we ban Mewtwo, players are going to use characters they already have more practice with, which is probably for the better anyway.

I'd say it's up to you, Cero.

I doubt Mewtwo will be broken because he wasn't very good in Melee and his moveset seems similar, but I suppose that technically doesn't mean much: he could be beefed up to do a lot of damage and such while still being relatively fast. Who knows.

 

Regardless I don't think there's much need to ban Mewtwo and it'd probably just take away from the fun... which is what the tournament is about... so yeah
