Sain is pretty funny... but my favorite are probably Cain and Abel because they started it all.
Loyalty wise, I guess Cain is more loyal to his liege Marth while Abel went out looking for his love in the end... but I use Abel more often, so I don't know...
I pick Frey for being relatively unknown and brave enough to sacrifice himself at the fort
EDIT: Never mind. My favorite cavalier in the beginning would be the enemy cavalier that appears in FE:SD's prologue 3, the one that starts on the bottom right section of the U-shaped land.

LOL. If you haven't realized, a running gag of mine is choosing a random enemy unit and making him/her my favorite. And guess what? I realized now... he wasn't a cavalier! He was a soldier! Argh! I'm going to find a cavalier now.
EDIT: It's one of the two cavaliers from the second level of FE:SD, the one to the left of the other one because he's cool.

Yeah, unfortunately he had to die. But then again, there is one generic cavalier who seems to be very important. Level 11's boss is a Manakete, but he isn't guarding the castle gate. Instead, next to Jake is a random cavalier that guards the gate. He's my favorite now, for taking the brave stand.
EDIT: No, I fail again! I'm a failure... He's my SECOND favorite. My first favorite is the one at level 7 who generates at the fortress at the most left because he always carries a Horseslayer which owns my very own cavaliers. These generics NEED to be recognized!

I'm going 100% with Alec. Not only is he an INSANE cavalier every time I use him, Plus, he really fits to me what a heroic "Paladin" should be. And he uses the phrase "Damn straight!" the first time you meet him. He's awesome.

lol I was thinking Suzaku when you said Alec. But yeah, now I have to go beat that game to meet Alec. From the few levels I did play, he did seem cool though.
