FE8 Secret characters

Greetings
Normally the way to change a characters starting class is to go into the [chapter unit editor] nightmare module, find the character in the chapter they are recruited in, and then change the class there.
The problem is that the secret characters are awarded between chapters. How do I modify them?
EDIT: Also, how do I add/edit abilities like the rogue's pick or the generals great shield?
EDIT: While the above is still a problem, the hack I've made is playable. I'm trying to turn it into a patch, but the Lunar IPS patcher I'm using cannot make a patch for a ROM bigger than 16MB. What do I do? Is there a way to make it work, or should I use a different patcher like UPS?

Hello,
I'm afraid that I don't know about secret character classes or abilities in FE8, but with regards to patching, you should use NUPS for expanded ROMs.

Don't use IPS it is obsolete. Here is a link to Nintedlords utilities.
And I dont kow if a way to edit those characters joining exists yet, but if you dont know how to do events yet you can do something like this to have them in the game.

As for editing the secret characters, I'm not sure where you could find them outside of trying to search for them via hex which is kinda hard and since it's FE8 I don't really know how to do it... it might be hardcoded somewhere even...

Thanks, I'll have to try NUPS then. I was under the impression that IPS was the one to use because 90% of the hacks I've downloaded for Fire Emblem and Pokemon were in IPS format.
Those four ability lists are for things like crit +15% and ability to use proficiency weapons like the shamshir and rapier. If you look at the general for example, you'll find the great shield ability isn't listed there. Those kind of abilities seem to be handled in a different way (great shield, pierce, sure shot and pick.).

I've looked through all of the ability slots on both the character and class, neither have any mention of the abilities I mentioned earlier, so I can only assume those abilities are handled differently. I want the ability not really for a gameplay sense, but a character sense. I made one character very offensive based (high str, skill and spd) with the crit +15% ability, and I want the other (who is defensive based, high def and res) to have the great shield ability. I also removed the rogue from the hack, and wanted to give Pick to the assassin.

I'm sorry to necropost, but I had the same problem a while ago, and I found out that the answer is to go to the "unknown6" chapter and the units should be there
