Okay, I'm putting aside the Tales thing for now.
Next thing I wanna try is editing the FE8 script so that Saleh and Myrrh will be the main characters. I edited the prologue (up to when the gameplay starts). The changes aren't too drastic (I don't think?). Just Saleh having an audience with King Fado to warn him about the energy from Grado when Grado's forces attack. But the game freezes up after saving the changes. (Oh yeah, and I've tried both ways, dumping the script, editing, and reinserting, as well as editing the text directly in the editor.)
Aside from "What did I do wrong?", my other question is, is there some kind of troubleshooting topic or page for common errors that hackers make? If not, I think it'd be a good idea.

@Cryptic idk the problem (it's FE8 and I don't hack FE8 >_>
but there isn't any troubleshooting topic or FAQ or anything because it costs a lot of time to invest into such a thing and while it would have been a great idea a few years ago, there's a lot less hacking going on and the such so it's not as useful at the moment. That is to say, I don't think it'd be worth it to make it right now. for most people, stuff like the Ultimate Tutorial and other tutorials and question thread usually suffice, though I realize you're hacking FE8 so things are a bit more difficult for you.

The game freezes when the soldier goes into the throne room (when the faces are supposed to load). At least, when I edited the text directly in the editor. When I dumped the script and reinserted it, I couldn't get past the title screen.
Anyway, here's the script I have so far...

Oh, you meant an FEditor adv text script...yeah I don't know anything about those
If the game freezes, it means that it doesn't know what to do next
If the game crashes(screeches), it means that the game was pointed to data that's inappropriate
or maybe not...
But yeah, the game may have froze if the portraits you're telling it to load are glitched data
If the game froze before you even went near the event, then yeah, you corrupted data
There's a possibility that you're situation is like mine and FEditor's text editor just does not to work no matter what. In that case, use older text editing methods.
Try to ask around to see if you can get a better answer than I can give.

Yeah, that. Well, it looks like I will have to use older text methods. If I can just remember how to do it the old way. It's been ages since I've done that...
EDIT: Okay, I found the old program. I'll just do that then. I might just do it for the FE7 file I was doing, too, since I was having the same problem with it. And all I did was change names. But sometimes, by some miracle, it just happened to work.
Anyway, thanks for the support, gaiz.
