Well, which do you prefer of the two, based off of units?

I would say Alm's simply because... I'm not sure, I just prefer his. I find it more interesting and that it has a better variety of units but that is just me. Celica's is pretty cool too but for some reason her route was a bit harder than Alm's... :\

Didn't get that far into the game, but Alm's for sure. Pure fighter team.

Heheh, that's interesting. I usually need at least Alm and Ruka (although Ruka might be a little of an experience hog if you use him too much too early on) but since I'm trying to get all the villagers leveled up as well I usually use them to finish off guys (which is sometimes hard because they are so weak).

Cliff is the only one who is really weak, though. But as soon as he gains a Spd level up, he'll be able to double and he'll be fine, too.

Oh yeah, Alm's route. Why? Dunno. Probably because Alm is more manly than Celica. I liked both routes, but I didn't want to pick "neither", so...

^I didn't want to put both because I felt there wasn't much discussion value in saying both. D:

I definitely think Celica's is interesting with the monsters and all that though.

And some of those monsters are incredibly annoying to defeat.

Sevr generally makes things a good deal easier, though biggrin.gif

I hate summoners, 8 gargoyles a turn = not fun...

Thunder sword is so beast.

Ruka = soldier, Grey = villager that can promote into several things IIRC, I remember him becoming a mage. O.o

Ruka is pretty damn great early on, with his good durability and offense which is about on par with Alm's (until you obtain the beast weapon that is the Thunder Sword).

Grey is probably the best of the three villagers early on, but Cliff will eventually surpass him due to better Spd, HP, Skl and a hell of a lot more Def.

Robin is meh.

I thought the same, I thought Cliff and Grey were pretty on par but one of them was a lot easier to manage than the other (forgot which), like one had to be REALLY babied...

And Ruka is amazing but it's best to leave the kills to others and just have him weaken others since he is a few levels above and I like to keep most everybody within 3-4 levels of each other and if you don't train the villagers early on it gets hard to manage with just Ruka and Alm (for me it was anyway).

That would be cliff, who is dealing something like 5 damage per hit upon joining, and he doesn't double until he gains a point of Spd (and IIRC, he gains like 4 Exp per hit, so it might take a while for him to gain that point of Spd).

Enemies are pretty strong in this game relative to your units, so you indeed want as much strong units as possible, and Thief Shrine abuse (or other kinds of abuse such as against the monsters at the end of Ch 1, in the cave where you recruit Paison etc.) is sometimes necessary.

I've tried beating those soldiers without any thief shrine abuse... and I never managed to beat it, I think.

lol, I totally abused the thief shrine. Waited to get all my units strong enough that I could beat it without having to baby any of them. Then I went to the next place without a problem.

FE2's gameplay sure is interesting... ohmy.gif

Using Alm with the Leather Shield you obtain in the battle with the Mercenary charging at you from the mountains, I did actually get pretty far without thief shrine abuse. That +3 Def sure is helpful. And then I used Silk to heal when necessary, of course. Oh yeah, I also used Silk for 2 range attacks, though her hit was kind of unreliable.

I think there were 2 enemies left or something when I accidently allowed an enemy to land a hit on Silk who had only few HP left D:
