Waiting for Grey to put a long rant here
Hey everyone.
I've heard a lot about the Dead Space series. I've played some of the good zombie games out there like Left 4 Dead and so on. I've heard a lot of good things about Dead Space but the only negetive I've heard is that its so scary it will scar you for life. How is the game?
I'm thinking of getting it on steam but I wanted some input first.

It's scary but not to that extreme lol. Its keen on jump scares. Bodies falling on you. Enemies busting out of the walls and air ducts. That stuff.

Now in my opinion, the first Dead Space is scarier (and harder)
Its the atmosphere. You're isolated in space on some huge ship, full of monsters and you don't know why. Your weapons are mere tools, your ammo in scarce supply. And the ship you're on is falling. Falling back to the planet. You have to fight for your life, fix the ship, and engineer your escape before its too late. Its worth playing for sure.

Dead Space 2 is less scary to me because you already know whats going on. That and this time, your character has dialogue. In DS1 he has 0 dialogue, and you never see his face, so you tend to put yourself in his shoes. That and in DS2 the weapons are stronger, ammo is slightly more plentiful, and you have a wider choice of weapons that fit any situation. Also your suits give you bonuses to your weapons, something that your suits in DS1 don't.

So yea if your computer can play it, I'd say go for it. And remember:

Thats actually a good strategy. If you walk in a room and see lots of bodies, dismember them completely. Stops the infectors from making new necromorphs.

Quick question, since bodyshots don't do much, is the flamethrower worth anything?

I like to burn things

In Dead Space 1, yes. The games logic system tells it that when a limb recieves X amount of damage, it breaks off, so tecnically, the flamethrower will dismember enemies. But its best to use it when you only have 1 or 2 in the room, the flamethrower DOES NOT stun lock enemies like the pulse rifle. Nothing beats the Pulse Rifle when it comes to crowd control. Oh and as a newbie, the two weapons you need at ALL TIMES are the Ripper, and the Force Gun. When you get them you'll see why.

Ripper and Force gun. Haven't gotten either one yet. (I don't think)
So far I mainly use Plasma cutter and ripper.
I got killing floor and Dead Space at the same time on Steam because of the halloween sale. I've been playing a LOT more killing floor xD

I did get to Chapter 3 today. I have learned a few things.

1. Zero gravity is fun.
2. I hate dark rooms
3. Dead space is scary because for me mainly because of the music.
4. Desecrate every corpse you see I'd make a shitty police officier
5. Punching slashers doesn't help xD

Lol you said you don't have the ripper then said you main the ripper XD
Chapter 3...I think the schmatic for the Ripper is there. You should find it on the floor when you're refueling the engines. Its hard to miss, you'll walk right over it XD
user posted image

Once you get it, go back to the store to download the schematic, and BUY THAT RIPPER. That is the number 1 ammo conserving weapon you can use. When upgraded and used wisely, a single ripper disk will carve thru 3 or more enemies. Sure beats shooting something with the Plasma Cutter 4-5 times.

As for the force gun, thats a farther ways off. Not sure which chapter. I can tell you the Level 3 suit is in chapter 4. As well as the Contact Beam.

I meant mainly using Plasma Cutter and Pulse gun. Apologies xD
And there was that other weapon, the one that uses line racks and places mines or something?
Is that any good? I haven't gotten around to using it.
I'd probably end up blowing myself up with it

The line gun? Its pretty good in any situation. Imagine a plasma cutter on steroids. Thats what the line gun is. A bigger, stronger cutting wave. But slower. Both the projectile and the fire rate. And the mines are a god send when you find these:
user posted image

These are tedius and time consuming to fight, because it will NOT die until ALL 8 tentacles are severed. Line gun mines make it easy. Oh, and don't try to run past a Guardian. If you do you'll lose your head. Tho it is a rather funny death animation since Isaac attempts to grasp for his missing head before dying XD

Don't pick up ammo for a gun you don't have. I'm sure you've notice that you only have 13 inventory slots lol. Don't waste space with that, unless you're really really hurting for cash and wanna sell ammo you don't need.

Yeah. I might fill up on one slot for it. I mainly carry plasma shots, health packs and flamethrower ammo. Unfortunatly, I don't use the Flamethrower much.

The Flamethrower is gonna help you tackle the brute in Chapter 4. But, as you go on, even on easy, that flamethrower won't be quite as handy. I say ditch it around....chapter 6 or 7. Especially if you have the pulse rifle. My suggested loadout for a newbie like you is

Plasma Cutter
Pulse Rifle
Ripper
Force Gun

Oh and for upgrade priority I recommend:

HP and Stasis-top priority
Plasma cutter damage and capacity-2
Pulse rifle capacity and damage-3
Ripper damage and duration-4
Force gun speed and capacity-5

Don't worry too much on upgrading the rippers capacity. You'll never use an entire clip in a single fight if you play it smart.
The force gun is so weak that upgrading the damage is a moot point.
The plasma cutter and pulse rifle reload fairly quick so don't worry too much.

The reason I say all this is you will never max out all your gear in your first run. There just aren't enough Power Nodes in the game, so you have to strategiclly upgrade your equipment to make them stretch.

How many Chapters are in the game anyway? I'm guessing around 20 or so.

THe worst part of fighting in Dead Space for me is when I run out of shots, I forget to right click and THEN reload. I've had many situations where I've just ended up in a melee fight with a slasher or something. While I haven't died in any of those fights, I usually end up using up health packs.

Is stasis really useful against the necromorphes? I've never really tried it againts them.

12 chapters. It may be too late, but if ya wanna see something cool, take the first letter of the first word of the title of each chapter for a secret message.

Stasis useful on them? Hell yea! It's one of your best weapons. I mean like you just said, you sometimes end up with an empty weapon and no time to reload. Put them in stasis and you just bought yourself time to not only reload, but take time to aim for the limbs easier (if you cut both arms off a slasher it will always kill them). Especially on those damn Leapers (the ones with the "scorpion" tail)
Oh, and the Twitchers. You won't see them til Chapter 9 or 10 (I think) but they are frighteningly fast. Fighting them without stasis is asking for it XD

Stasis is a lifesaver against Twitchers on harder difficulties, slowing the fast enemies down so you can take out their twitching limbs.
Darkness will reclaim what the Light had created.

I will not remove this until i beat Bloody Palace mode in DMC 3.

Twitchers found in the Dead Space 2 DLC are even worse. They serpentine when they run at you. To this day I've yet to kill one before it struck me without stasis. Even then I still get hit because DS2 Twitchers are as robust as Enhanced Pukers, if not more.
