@  Idiot : (28 September 2016 - 01:42 PM) Lol
@  Fire Blazer : (26 September 2016 - 01:18 AM) lolFE11
@  Blue Leafeon : (25 September 2016 - 10:23 AM) Can't argue there.
@  kirant : (25 September 2016 - 05:55 AM) True, but FE11 is an example of how exactly the formulae break down at extremes (just as was proven when it was FE1). I mean, almost nothing made sense in that game from the stat growth to the pegasi turning to wyverns to forcing you to choose between permadeath and gaidens.
@  Blue Leafeon : (24 September 2016 - 10:57 PM) All the mages and your units have 0 Res.
@  Blue Leafeon : (24 September 2016 - 10:57 PM) Irrelevant? Hahahahahahaha... Yeah no. Desert chapter in FE11 says hi. T_T
@  kirant : (24 September 2016 - 08:37 PM) Or just increase the number of mages in a game and give them close combat relevance (that is, split their defences more evenly). Luck is just bad because it alone can't influence enough but Resistance can become more effective if they just made the attacks of defends against more relevant.
@  FireIcarus : (24 September 2016 - 07:38 PM) I feel like Luck should double as the Resistance stat. What better way to make the two most irrelevant stats matter than mixing them together?
@  Blue Leafeon : (24 September 2016 - 10:32 AM) Oh my, another adbot. Well, this shall be amusing.
@  Blue Leafeon : (24 September 2016 - 10:30 AM) ...Firefox. I just updated adobe flash the other day. What do you MEAN you blocked an outdated plugin?!
@  zac : (23 September 2016 - 07:26 PM) I want to do that soon, but need the moneys first
@  Blue Leafeon : (23 September 2016 - 11:09 AM) Or rather, had mine custom-built.
@  Blue Leafeon : (23 September 2016 - 11:09 AM) This is why I custom-built mine. lol
@  zac : (23 September 2016 - 10:36 AM) Funny thing is it was luck of the draw. It has five available network adapters that I didn't get to choose from, and I just happened to get the one of those that don't support Bluetooth.
@  Fire Blazer : (23 September 2016 - 04:29 AM) @zaxc ya def doesn't sound like that much of an "entertainment device" lol gotta read up on dem specs tho
@  Fire Blazer : (23 September 2016 - 04:29 AM) oh yeah Rollout was crazy I def got hit hard by that a couple times lol
@  zac : (22 September 2016 - 11:49 PM) i just think it's funny that an entertainment laptop wouldn't have bluetooth with how popular bluetooth speakers/headphones/etc. are
@  zac : (22 September 2016 - 11:49 PM) i wouldn't have even known this tbh since i don't ever use bluetooth except for the fact that i wanted to set up my wiiu pro controller on it
@  zac : (22 September 2016 - 11:48 PM) so i just discovered today that my laptop, which was advertised as an entertainment device, doesn't support bluetooth
@  kirant : (22 September 2016 - 08:08 PM) I will admit that the one insane Pokemon I can remember was Gen 2 Whitney's Miltank. That thing was the stuff of nightmares to a normal player since you aren't going to know how to counter Rollout. Sure, you can go through many options if you know what you're doing...but it ends up OHKOing an entire team if you're not careful.

Ok, So I am starting a Hack of Fire Emblem 8, and I need some advice.

First: What should I start with? The hack will include new portraits, a new script, new items/weapons, new sprites, new support conversations, new class trees etc. I am not doing this by myself, but its still overwhelming. so where would you recommend starting?

Second: Would it be possible to have 60 main game characters? and the additional 10 in the endgame? I guess what I'm asking is : is there enough space for that many, and is it possible to change the recruitment of the game, so that you are adding recruitment, not just replacing them.

Third: Is The actual editing, and hacking of the script something a person with no previous experience can feasibly learn?

Thanks for your time and consideration, and Forgive me if any of these questions have been answered elsewhere... I'm new here and haven't gotten a chance to explore the whole forum.

I would start with learning nightmare editing, as it is essential for all other hacking. you can download the nightmare program and it's modules from this site here Then make sure you have a common knowledge for hex editing. use FEditor to hack text, mappy to hack maps, and nintenlords event assembler for for event hacking.

also 60 characters... sounds like a lot, I have no idea how you would go about doing that, 60 it quite a lot, I would say let someone more professional answer this...

and yes you can learn all of this if you have the patience.

also if you watch arch's youtube videos for event hacking you should be able to learn map hacking and event hacking more easily then if you tried to by yourself, here's episode 1. also I know the example uses FE7, don't worry about that it will work for FE8 as well, and in episode 15 he explains the differences between editing FE7 and FE8 http://www.youtube.c...n_order&list=UL

good luck!

You can only have a max of 50 characters per allegiance on the field at once, including the merchant IIRC. I don't know what the limit to battle preparations are, but that's for fielded units, and it might be the same for total units in your army.

None of us who hack events were born with any experience hacking things, but we did it, so yeah, it's possible. happy.gif It takes some hard work and a lot of patience (I mean a lot), but it's totally worth it if you get it, and with nice tutorials and videos and people to help you, it's totally feasible.

Ok, Thanks for your input, I have Nightmare, and all the necessary modules. Is there a tutorial for using it? if there are multiple which would you all recommend?

Also, Do you recommend compiling all the sprite sheets/portraits/script etc then inserting them, or inserting as you finish them?

I myself create ones I need for the chapter I am hacking. This way I don't get too far ahead of myself.

Hello everyone, it's been a loooong time since I posted last...

Anyway, I'm also attempting a FE8 hack with a large scale. I've read up and played around with the big 4 (Nightmare, FEEditorAdv, Mappy, Event Assembler [only read info for this one]), but there are a few things I want to be clear on before I go too crazy:

1. Increased stat/Level caps? I heard having stats over 31 can cause issues and is only possible with ASM. Is this possible in any way without it?

2. 3rd tier promotions? I was thinking that editing a promotion item in Nightmare to allow promotions to unused classes would work, is that true?

3. Added characters/classes? Sure, editing the existing classes can allow for custom characters, but what about actually entering in new information for new classes? I was reading up on a table expansion process that would allow for more character and item slots, but would that apply to classes as well?

I know I'm asking a lot, I appreciate any advice you give me. I just want to know what I can do without ASM, specifically those three things above.
