Practice man. I used to suck something awful. All I could draw was what I had in front of me (copying a picture). Now I only use pics as guidelines for when I don't know how to do something (for example I didn't really know how to give her legs that crossed look so I looked at some pics of girls crossing their legs to figure it out)
So thats kinda my advice. Start out by taking a pic you like and try to replicate it. As you get your skills down and develop your own personal style just draw w/e you want. You'll be surprised how fast you get good.
