I believe that around here only Ayumu used multiboot, but I don't know if she does it still.

She used Unbuntu and Vista in multiboot, if memory doesn't fail me.

As for me, both because my PC is slow as heck(T__T) and also because I personally have no need of mine which is not taken care of by XP, I don't resort to it.

Though it should be more widely spread IMO. I know many people who could start dwelling into the world of Linux had they known multibooting is an option.

I think Dual Booting your system with a Linux (preferably Ubuntu) is a great idea - both have upsides and downsides.

However, if you want to add more Linuxes, make sure their not killing your bootloader. Lol, when I installed Fedora I kept getting errors trying to load Ubuntu because I kept screwing up it's GRUB entry. In the end, it turned out to be which partition I was pointing to XD

I used to dual-boot XP and Ubuntu, but to be honest it's not really worth doing. I prefer the simplicity of having a single operating system. If I'm gonna dual-boot, it's gonna be having to identical partitions of the same Linux distro, that way if I upgrade a distro from an LTS to a regular update, and it screws everything up, I can just copy the second partition over the first and all is well again.

You mean...what is a dualboot? >___>

QUOTE (Wikipedia)
Multi-boot or Multi-booting is the act of installing multiple operating systems on a computer, and being able to choose which one to boot when switching on the computer power. The term dual-booting refers to the common configuration of only two operating systems. The program which makes multi-booting possible is called a boot loader.

Gotta love wikipedia. XD

So pretty much, this is a topic in which we are debating on our preferred operational system line-up, if one or more.

Well, for example, some great programs only run in linux, for example. (Like a hex editor I had my eyes on. >___<), while some only run in windows. One could wait for them to get versions, but sometimes it is more practical to keep the multiboot options when you have the need to run some programs which are limited by the bondage of OS, than to trust luck and invest time.(And some good programs aren't even worked on anymore, keep that in mind...so no conversions)

Or just because you rather Linux, but want to be able to run windows when needed. I am pretty sure that this stops the main complaint of people who said they couldn't even start with Linux, the fact that some programs he/she owns only run in windows. So it is indeed a good tool for someone to get to try/to get started in the world of Linuxes, mainly, in my eyes.

Of course, I personally agree with you, and see no need for multiboot in my reality either, for XP manages to be stable enough and have close to all my needs fulfilled. But perhaps if I was an avid fan of linux, it would be something I would actively think about.

Yup. XD Even though, never had the curiosity of running something non-windows? XD If you ever feel like trying, do consider this an alternative to do so. ^__^

Even though in that case I would point you to the "Virtual Machines" topic. But...yeah. Everyone should try something non-windows at one point IMO. To either see the problems in windows one never saw without something to compare it with, or...well, learn one loves windows more than before.

(Normally the first is the most common aftermath, believe me. tongue.gif)
