Hero is better.
Axes>Bows
More con.
Less vulnerable.
Mind you, he's a beast either way.
And no, Heroes don't get a crit bonus.

He's a pwnage uber beast as hero. Regardless of his low construction for axe use.

100% HERO
I made him ranger and he was ok
I made him hero and he was pwnage.
Since this is sacred stones it means you can buy body rings if the con is too low for axes.
If it is alright then fck, KILLER AXES equals OVERKILL
He was my best char on my 2nd playthrough.
My best char now is Tana falcoknight 4 things maxed and no stat ups.
I made him ranger and he was ok

That should be enough
But again, this is FE8. You can easily buy some body rings later. If it is in the game then weaker weapons are still enough if he somehow can't double and all.

15 Con=All but devil axe but who uses that sh** anyway.
Yes I always make him Hero. Did Ranger once and it sucked. You can always use hand axes if you want ranged attacks. Plus I HATE the sword attack animation for rangers. Why couldn't they just keep the Nmd Trooper animation?

I'd make him a hero, because he can use axes. He owns with that
Steel axe. He also looks too beefy to have that Ranger animation.

Probably because Ranger seems like a better name for the
class, and they thought it would be dumb to have a class with
a different name, but the same animation (Except for Corsairs,
apparently :/)

You guys are silly. I go with Hero but that's only because I don't want him to have that extra effective disadvantage. i.e. Horseslayer, halberd, longsword. Sure he's got the swordslayer problem to worry about but that's gonna happen regardless. Less problems add up to a more fun unit, though that extra movement of his is just lovely also.
