Chad is a great thief who doesn’t afraid of anything. Fact.
Chad is brilliant. He is a Thief, which means he is one of three characters that can open doors and chests with a lockpick, and steal from enemy units. He comes in at Ch.3 at Lv.1 This is very early in the game and means he has plenty of time to grow.
He comes in with these stats.
HP: 16
Str: 3
Skl: 3
Spd: 10
Def: 2
Res: 0
Lck: 4
They may not look like much but check out his growths
HP: 85%
Str: 50%
Skl: 50%
Spd: 80%
Def: 25%
Res: 15%
Lck: 60%
Holy Shit. Look at those growths. Name for me another Thief in FE that has a 50% growth in strength. That 85% HP growth means he can take atleast two hits even with his subpar defence. In fact the only people with a higher HP growth are Asthol, Barth, Bors, Dieck and Gonzales.
But those defences don’t matter when he’s dodging everything with those 80%/60% growths in speed and luck.
Dodgetank Get!
The chapter you get him in is pretty abysmal for him with all those lance users, but the next two chapters have a fair few Brigands/Pirates for him to attack and since he’s a thief he gains exp at a much faster rate. Plus even he gets a counter he’ll most probably dodge it.
Now how does Chad help you ask? He’s a thief, he’ll be stealing and opening chests to his hearts content. Let’s see the minimum Chad steals before you get another thief.
Ch:3 – Halberd and 3000G
Ch:6 – 2000G, 3000G, 5000G, Silver Lance, Killer Axe, Unlock Staff, Goddess Icon, Short Bow
Ch:7 – Rapier, Barrier Staff, Red Gem from Wyvern
He gets you around 40,000G Net. This is a considerable chunk of money and greatly increases the funds ranking.
In CH: 8 there finally comes some competition for Chad, in the form of Asthol.
Asthol comes in at lv.10 while Chad has had 5 chapters previous to grow so we’ll put him at lv.8
Asthol:
HP-25.0 Str-7.0 Skl-8.0 Spd-15.0 Def-7.0 Res-3.0 Luck-11.0
Chad:
HP-21.9 Str-6.5 Skl-6.5 Spd-15.6 Def-3.8 Res-1.0 Luck-8.2
Wow so Asthol is winning by quite a bit right now. He has a 4 point defence lead which is quite good and his strength is barely any better. But who uses thieves to fight? All you want them to do is grab chests. The next few chapters have quite a few axe users so we can assume that Chad will get some kills to level out the level difference.
Thieves reach lv.20 really quickly due to the exp bonus. So before Ch:17 Asthol and Chad will probably be lv.20, if not well then they will die.
Chad: lv.20
HP-32.1 Str-12.5 Skl-12.5 Spd-20.0 Def-6.7 Res-2.8 Luck-15.4
Asthol: Lv.20
HP-34.0 Str-10.5 Skl-12.0 Spd-19.4 Def-9.0 Res-5.0 Luck-12.5
Cath: Who?
Cath comes in really underlevelled in Ch:12 (Lv.3) so theres a huge chance that she won’t be used. Who needs three thieves anyway?
So as we can see, Asthol wins in a HP. By 2 defence by three and resistance by 2.
Those good defences mean he can take a hit and still be standing. Chad then wins in everything else. Strength, Skill, Speed, and Luck. Chad laughs in Asthols face, who needs subpar defences when you can take a hit AND dodge attacks like Ben stiller dodges questions in an interview.
The only problem for both of them is they’re low resistance makes them Bolting-Fodder and Sleep/Berserk weak. Which is why you have a healer
Now you’re probably thinking “Lol Chad sucks coz he can’t promotez”
While yes he doesn’t promote because if he did his growths would be much lower. This also means he doesn’t cost your team 10,000 in a promotion item and can then afford a better weapon such as a killing edge which means he can do considerable damage to an enemy with a high chance of a critical. Sure later on he may be taking away from the exp rank and there are abundance of wyverns in Ch:21 but look at his utility. It also means he isn’t fighting for a promotion item of which there are very few until Ch: 16.
There are chests in chapters: 3,6,7,8,12,14(desert),16,19A,20B. That equals to a lot of stealing and even then there’s lots to steal off enemies. Also he has six movement the minute you get him so the only enemies that can catch him when he’s weak, earlygame are Cavs. Plus the enhanced vision which helps anyone on a FoW chapter such as the desert. And in Ch: 16, He can be used as Douglas bait
Now the characters of Elibe need friends and Chad has quite a few.
Chad supports: (Thunder)
Lugh (Fire) 30/+2
Rei (Ice) 1/+2
Cath (Anima) 1/+1
Ellen (Wind) 1/+1
Hugh (Wind) 1/+1
Lugh is perfect as it is really fast and they both come early. Hugh and cath both come really late into the game and so will probably not be used. That leaves Ray or Ellen left. And Ellen is a good choice as well as it gives him even more dodge.
Chad 20/-- A Lugh, B Ellen @Killing edge
HP-32 Atk: 23.5 Hit: 121 Avoid: 75 Crit 60 Def: 8
How’s that for kick-ass? If he’s not criting the enemies he’s doing quite a bit of damage.
Now for Ranks:
Funds:
Lol, Chad gets you so much stuff and doesn’t use a promotion item that he’s probably the most helpful for the funds rank.
Survival: With Supports factored in he’ll be dodging the night away
Tactics: High movement, being able to see in fog. He will damage enemies enough so weaker characters can get a kill in.
Experience: With the bonus he’s getting from Killing an enemy he will greatly help the rank early on. Late-game when he caps, not so much
Combat: Not as helpful as others but can weaken or finish off enemies
