So I thought about posting this video in the entertainment section (since I laugh every time I see it) but then I realized some people might have a different opinion and I wanted to know what you guys thought about it.

So this is a video on the anti-vaccine wave that I hear is running around in the states. I personally think that unless you have some pre existing condition there's really no reason not to get a vaccine, I actually got the anti Hepatitis-B vaccine (so I could go visit hospitals as a med student) last week.

So, what do you guys think about it, or know about it, any info that you have that sways you one way or another would be awesome.

I don't have much to say on this really, but I think vaccines are fine and should be a thing... I'm not very educated on the matter, but the way I see it, we wouldn't have "invented" them if there weren't good reason for them/they didn't work, so yeah... idk... if there was stronger evidence saying they were more good than bad, then I might reconsider, but eh... right now I don't feel swayed any way and am just kinda content with the status quo... *shrug*

i get the basic idea of how vaccines work and they seem like a sound enough idea. i guess the only reason i would say they could cause problems is if someone is hyper-reactive to a disease(if that's possible. i don't see why it couldn't be, but i have no idea). if that's the case even a vaccine could really mess them up, but i haven't heard of that happening.

Hm that's cool, I most of you aren't of a different opinion.

Blazer: That's very Zen I guess XD

Zac: You're mostly right, say the Hep-B vaccine I mentioned could kill you if you have an allergy to peanuts I think?  This isn't really happening here so I don't really know what the Anti-Vaccines Groups arguments are but I haven't seen anything to make me re-think Vaccines (Except for the Autism-Mercury thing, but that's a different issue IMO).

Wow I'm late for this topic.

But I should say that I'm studying to be in the public health care field (cancer treatment) so I've got...strong opinions on the matter.

The entire anti-vaccine movement makes no sense at all.  The research paper they cite is retracted, there is no science evidence to back their claims, and half the tactics used right now are the same as if I'd campaign to ban dihydrogen monoxide: they're using big words and a poor (or manipulative) grasp of chemistry to make it sound far worse than it is.  It's an absolutely insane and asinine topic to even discuss when study after study after study is debunking every single claim.

It's become a case of 99 studies against, one poorly done one for (relevant section 45 seconds in).

(In case anybody hasn't heard it before: dihydrogen monoxide is water)

This is something I do need to do a little bit more research on but I'm going to go ahead and run my mouth and say if you don't vaccinate your kids you're an idiot and putting everyone else at risk. I know someone who has a child who literally cannot be vaccinated (they would if they could) because of medical reasons so they rely on everyone else to do the right thing and vaccinate because if he caught something like whooping cough he would die from it. Vaccines are designed to help people and stamp out disease that can be completely prevented.

As far as anti-vaccination goes I haven't really looked into the arguments for it but https://au.news.yaho...whooping-cough/ this article is great.

also I'm pretty sure they're trying to pass a bill here that will make it compulsory for you to have your children immunised if you wish to receive child care benefits from the government. +1 Aus gov.
