Part of Anonymous to hack Facebook November 5
#1

Pretty much a part of Anonymous is planning to hack Facebook and take it down on November 5th due to Facebook selling personal information to the government.
I think what they're doing is right, personal information is meant to stay personal and not sold. Thoughts?
I won't remove this until I get a killtacular in Halo MLG- Started December 29, 2010.

@Kirant: Facebook has been doing behind people's backs and I guarantee you that most people don't even know about it.

On a deeper search, I still fail to see a huge issue. Information directly tying you to the information seems to be kept secret (ala their past policies). Granted, I haven't exactly done deep research (2 page google search), so correct me on errors.
Their current policies (which works the same, but with private companies), while not popular, aren't exactly devastating results. Heck, unless you're dumb enough to leave data for mining from Openbook, it's basically a census. I don't mind companies and governments being able to read the pulse of the community. Plus, if I -have- to take a side (both of them get pissy at times), I'll favour them over the side that attacks rural cop websites that legitimately arrest their cohorts.
Long story short, given the fact that most people are smart enough to not be Openbook readable, being one in a million statistic that's sellable isn't a huge issue IMO

the whole point of terrorism is to get headlines and install fear. this already has the headlines and the fear comes from a successful operation dispite people knowing about it beforehand

I mean, I understand why they want to do it.....but it just seems like there isn't much reason to do it other than inflict fear on everyone. I for one don't care too much if it's taken down or not. (There's always Google+).

Because a census form doesn't have all that anyways.
The government can find out what TV shows you like, OH NO.

Then there are those who don't give a damn and only do things for the lulz.
And then there are those who think the other two are simply wasting their time. I would fit into this category, if any.

I don't really care because I hold the general consensus that any information on the internet is available for someone's access and that I should not post private information on the internet.

I must say, their social networking site looks much nicer than Facebook.

There are two types of profiles.
1)Real Profile
2)Fake Profile
Now real profiles can be cut down to two types
1a) Registered Citizens
1b) Illegal Immigrants
All the information put on facebook by group 1a is information the government should already know (name, date of birth, gender)
Now it comes down to group 1b and group 2. They won't have any way of discerning between the two, so either it'll screw up statistics or a bunch of money will be wasted trying to kick fake people out of the country.
Pretty much I don't believe facebook is selling information to the government. It's either information they have, or is useless, or can be gotten by cheaper.
I won't start on anonymous and their religion of constant failing.

As for this, uh, scheme, I doubt it'll work, and I doubt it'll have much of an effect. But hey, I could be wrong.
