the internet has kind of already blown up
:|

I made quite a few comments, here is just one of them I posted on the Project CARS Forums

Hi all, going to try to be brief since there's a lot of text going around but it probably won't work, sorry lol

1) Thanks for working so hard to make the game

2) Thanks for listening to fans throughout the process

3) I personally am a Wii U owner that has been keeping up with this game for a while. I could have bought it for PC, PS4, or Xbox One, but didn't, because I appreciated the efforts I assumed were going into the Wii U version. (I realize being a developer isn't easy.)

4) I didn't invest any money into the project, so I wouldn't be upset if it got cancelled or delayed to another console. (Actually, I'd be totally fine with it getting delayed to another console, it's just that said delay could take years, and I feel like SMS will have moved on by that point.)

5) However, I think it's important to realize that as the gaming industry is right now, there is a bit of a rift and tension is high in general between consumers and developers/publishers. Essentially, there is a lot of lack of trust and feeling of developers "cheating" players (DLC, buggy games, etc.) or not keeping up with promises (promising things not in the final game, announcing ports that seemed to be going well only to cancel them [mostly for Wii U though]). Therefore, I think that it would be rather inconsiderate to not do something to make it up to whoever was financially invested into the game if they did not get what they felt they were promised. For the people like me who were just waiting enthusiastically, we aren't "owed" anything, but we may feel disappointed if we don't get anything in the end anyway, so ultimately it's up to the developers to decide if they want to betray the (often self-wrought) sense of trust/hope of those people. While some might see it maturely and not hold a grudge, others might, but ultimately one might say that those people don't really matter. It's annoying to deal with, but it is what it is.

tl;dr, I just hope that everyone is treated fairly and no one is actually cheated on anything. Right now it's looking bad (things blow up way too fast on the internet, which is the only thing I'm personally frustrated about), but it's not like anything is decided. Granted, people will be watching and I think how the situation is handled will be very important. I do hope SMS realizes this and doesn't just cancel the Wii U version with a brief explanation and nothing else! Not for my sake (if the game comes out for Wii U, I'll buy it, if not, I won't; no drama here), but for others! That's all!

anyway, was anyone else interested in this game? have you picked it up already, and if so, how was it? or were you also looking forward to the Wii U version, and if so, how do you feel about this? even if you don't care for the game, does this sort of behavior bother you in general? discuss~!

I haven't been following the game, but it looks fun enough. As for them possibly cancelling the wiiU version there's not much to be done about it if the game doesn't run properly. 23fps is a fairly ugly prospect for a racing game. I agree they should probably do something to compensate the people who invested in the development hoping to get it on wiiU, but if they released it as is people would probably flip out even more than if it was cancelled. Cutting back on the graphics isn't a great option, but as far as the players are concerned I think it's the most appealing(other than Nintendo magically making every wiiU capable of running project CARS). In this case I think the devs hands are tied, if they cut back the graphics it'll cost a great deal of money, and canceling this far into development will also cost a huge amount. Neither are great, but I think it'll come down to which hits the wallet harder.

I agree 23fps isn't that good, though a part of me is okay with it and just wants it released XD but yeah most people probably wouldn't be okay with that and would flip out like you said. I think the thing with graphics is that it might not be as simple as cutting back on the graphics, for instance it might be something that only the CPU can effectively handle so that's why they can't get Project CARS running at a good frame rate, or something.

How will cutting back the graphics cost a lot of money? I mean, they kind of already used those graphics on other things, so it's not like they're going to waste. Cancelling will lose some money, yes, but overall this was a success for them and the Wii U is just one platform and it doesn't seem like they put a lot of effort into the port so far >_>. The biggest thing is how they'd make it up to those who invested into the game, IMO. Everyone else who was just casually looking forward to it (like me), that will stink, I won't be happy about it, but I'm not exactly being wronged, they technically have the right to cancel something like that and I'm not really being cheated, lol.

If you want to cut back on the graphics you can't just turn a knob and have it fixed. It's gonna take, at the very least, messing around with textures which takes time, and therefore costs money. It may not be a lot, but it'll definitely set them back a bit. Unless they already had stuff made up because they were expecting something like this. In any business a delay means losing money however much it may be.

Personally I agree with everything you're saying. 23fps is more than playable(I used to have a toaster of a laptop so I got used to low framerates). But I wanted to try to look at it from a different angle. I was just looking at the wiiU version though which is where I went wrong on the cost thing. Overall it probably won't hit them hard enough to really bother anyone.

of course not, but it's much easier to dial down on graphics than to dial up. graphics are usually made much higher res than they're actually used at so they can use whatever level fits without having to recreate or upscale to reach a higher level (ideally, anyway; as with almost anything, this is not always the case). I don't think lowering the graphics quality would be a huge investment, not compared to some other things, anyway. it would cost time too tho, you're right

yeah fair enough, and same I suffered through like 15fps and somehow managed to have fun (if it got much lower on my comp then I'd be a bit frustrated, yeah =P), so as long as it's stable, I would live, lol. that being said, I *do* like my 60fps :P

I never looked into anything, and I mean anything on Project Cars, but them being unable to make the game look and run nice on the Wii U, is not the Wii U's fault as I have naturally seen people say. The Wii U utilizes different hardware and software than other consoles, and not all developers are expierenced in working with what the Wii U uses. Does this make them bad at developing? Not at all. All this means is that they are working with something they aren't used to working with. From what I've read, Sonic Boom suffered from the same stuff. All of the early stuff we saw on the game was not made to be played on the Wii U.

yeah but tbf they made a lot of promises and acted like the Wii U was great/a great console to develop for and stuff, I don't think they should have been so careless and hyped things up without being sure that they'd work out in the end, it just ended up making things worse for the disappointment to come

I never followed the game, but it looks like I dodged a bullet with getting hyped for a game that is never going to be released.

yeah, I wasn't that hyped, and it dwindled down over time anyway (so by the time this came about it was like "meh, it stinks but I'm not even that hurt"), and now I'm just not going to get it... the game doesn't even seem like my kind of game anymore and based on what I've seen/heard I don't think it's worth investing into right now, only got so much money and I'm trying to make better buying decisions lol
