This is my first ever forum experience, so I don't know much how this works but, here it goes anyway. I've been editing Fire Emblem 7 for a while now. For text edition, I use the fire emblem 7 text editing suite, for portraits and animations I've been using FEditor adv and Nightmare for chapter units, etc... Everything was going fine and I was about to edit the Battle Preparations chapter when my brother, using another save data but the same edited game came across a problem. When he placed the cursor on the boss of the stage he was playing (Georg on the stage you find Durandal) and pressed R to view his information, the screen became a mix of crazy colors and lines. This also happened if he engaged the boss in combat. I quickly checked the game on the FEditor and, to my surprised, not only the portrait I had put in Georg's placed had disappeared, but also the one I put over Denning's. I tried re-inserting them again, but it wouldn't let me. I started searching for solutions. First, I expanded the ROM to 32 MB, something I should've done from the start, and I saw a light of hope. When I rechecked on FEditor, the mouth frames of the two portraits that vanished reappeared. I thought, "I'll just re-insert them now and everything is back on track" but it didn't happen. Even though FEditor let me re-insert the portraits, they still don't appear in the game, making the screen go black with green blocks and lines. I've tried correcting the checksum, but it didn't help. I'm no expert on this, but my guess is that I filled all the empty space that the game had available. (I used GBA graphics editor and saw the original portraits of the game along the custom ones I inserted. Also, I checked the pointer for the character's portrait using Nightmare and they were different for the same character in my customized ROM and the clean one, meaning the new portrait did not substitute the original's place, but instead was inserted in another location.) I really need help. My brother and I have been working very hard on this edit for a long time and we really want to finish it. Thanks in advance.

oh my God no line breaks. Sooooo intimidating, I don't know where to start...
First of all, the text editing suite is REALLY BAD, to put it simply. Use FEditor Adv for texting (although the suite may have ****ed up your ROM in some uncomprehendable way already... >_>).
Reading on... yeah, I think that's the problem. First of all, you should be using FEditor Adv for text and portraits. Second, you should back-up your ROM periodically so that you don't encounter huge errors and have to restart from scratch.
Third, for that specific character "R" screen crap, just don't use that character, if you can avoid it. Use another character as a replacement.
Fourth, your ROM shouldn't be more than 32MB, so that could be a problem.
Fifth, where you add the freespace could also be a problem.
Aaaand that's all that comes to my mind for the moment, sorry.

Oh my God, I may have messed up pretty bad. I'm going to check the FEditor Adv text editor.
When I found out it existed, I had was already using the text editing suite for text and changing the portraits pallets using hex a editor. When I discovered FEditor adv, it's portrait editor fascinated me for it's simplicity, but it's text editor terrorized me because it works very different to the text editing suite, which I am pretty familiar with.
As for the backup, I guess one's not enough. I'll make more of then more often from now on.
I still have an issue regarding free space and ROM size. I expanded my ROM using a hex editor, but it didn't solve my problem. I checked the expanded ROM it had been expanded by adding "FF" hex a lot of times in the end of the ROM. I made it 32 MB, so that shouldn't be the problem. Though I remember reading somewhere that free space should consist of "00"s and not "FF"s.
I've tried adding "00" in the end of the ROM with another hex editor, but it remained aprox. 16 MB and FEditor adv would not open that copy of the ROM.
Basically, I'm asking what is the correct way to expanding the ROM and/or adding free space?
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question and the line break tip.(forum noob I am indeed) I know you must be a really busy person.
