A while ago I said I'd get new hosting... well I just used up my money to do it for a year. tongue.gif

The process isn't done or anything, but I've been billed, so that's enough confirmation for me. I mean, if they're going to take my money, I should be able to say I bought it, right? ohmy.gif

New hosting is much better. It includes--

I have no idea what most of that means, but, congratulations? Anyways, it says that it supports streaming video and audio. Does this mean we wouldn't have to link to those anymore? I mean, obviously there are times when we should, but still.

LOL right I should have made it into standard terms.

I have unlimited space, my site won't crash if tons of people visit it (at least it shouldn't), I don't have to worry about server resources anymore, feshrine.net stays as long as I pay this continuous amount of money >_> there are lots of new e-mail features and the site is now "better".

QUOTE (Shoutbox -- Read from Bottom to Top)

Blazer -- I'm glad it didn't work, now I spend 2x money but get 4x the stuff. But there goes my $50 gift card. T_T
Blazer -- It's 1/2 the price for a service just as good if not better. Meaning instead of $22 for 3 months I have $47 for 12 months. 47/4=11.75 for 3 months, $11.75 for 3 months > $22 for 3 months for pretty much the same service, and it's almost 1/2 the price. happy.gif
Blazer -- Well I got the answer on how to fix the problem on the other site but my new plan is better
Blazer -- plus I don't feel like dealing with their stupid problems
Blazer -- Meh I decided to go with another host... the one i was gonna use was kinda ripping me off anyway

EDIT: Current progress... Backing up/downloading everything. Then I will change the DNS to go to the new host and then re-upload EVERYTHING and once that is done the site should for the most part "be back to normal"-- then I play around with new features and everything and I never ever upload anything to a separate host again. Yes, that's right, direct links to music and all and even big files (I hope anyway). Also, that problem where .txt files don't work, that should be no more. Yay~

No. Since we're still on the Jcink host for the forums (read: the forums and main site are on seperate hosts).

^Too bad I don't have Jcink's edition of IPB v1.3 or I'd host it on the mainsite, too. :\

Oh yeah, and I'd kinda like to hear more of what you have to say, Tino, since you'd probably be most familiar with the "terminology". XD

There's not much for me to say though. It all looks good to me.

Though, why is PHP a "bonus feature"? It's just something that piqued my interest.

The memory bandwidth is apparently quite a strain on most lower segments of hosting, according to a friend of mine quite experienced in the webmistreesing field.

Also, Joomla, **** yes.

How do you pronounce "Joomla"? For whatever reason it seems like one of the words you'd pronounce the 'j' as 'h' (akin to Spanish).

As for the placement of PHP, honestly, I can't say-- probably just trying to make it sound extra good or something. Most decent free hosts allow for PHP so it is indeed weird.

Almost finished making the back-up. Once I am done I can finally change DNS and upload new site and everything and hopefully everything will work. Then I can start adding "new" features and updating with more content... hopefully... although my trip might intervene with the amount of time I have to do said things.

You should convert the site to PHP! Or atleast use SSI. And you might wanna use .htaccess for url renaming and IP banning...

PHP is fail, Blazer dislikes PHP. Don't want to discuss.

What do you mean by "url renaming and IP banning"... I can do the latter but I don't understand what you mean the former.

URL renaming, or utilizing "clean URLs", is the act of making URLs with GET variables look better. It allows search engines to index the pages more properly, allows users to have more ease in finding a certain spot on the site they found earlier, etc.

For example, let's say you have this URL: http://www.something...&id=86980428583

It would obviously be much easier on the eye (and a _lot_ better for search engine indexing) to have this URL: http://www.something...es/Some_Article

It's generally done using the Apache mod_rewrite module and a .htaccess file containing "RewriteRule" commands, though there are other, less practical ways.

Also, explain to me why PHP fails and why you dislike it. I demand an explanation. : )

Well, PHP may not fail, but I dislike it. And as I said, "Don't want to discuss."

Where in my site would I need URL renaming (besides the gallery which I don't feel like managing). >_>

Site isn't all back yet. The music section and the gallery section aren't uploaded. Once everything is back I will make an official update on the mainsite and then prepare myself for some content updates.

You don't need it if you don't use PHP.

sleep.gif I'm fine doing things the way I do them now, however thanks for the suggestions.

EDIT: Tino, I need some help getting the gallery back together again. I have all the files and the database but I'ma still need some help... If I give you an FTP account would that be enough to help, or would you need access to phpMyAdmin as well? :\

Depends. I've no idea what kind of gallery it is. Similar to the one found here?

If so, I'm not sure whether I'll need that info or not. I think it may be useful.
