Alright, so, you know how FE7 has all these nice instrument samples, but we can't link our music insertions to them because they're all scattered across different maps for different songs?

Well, I hope to remedy that here. Basically, what I've done is gone through most of the songs in FE 7 and picked out instruments out of the different maps and combined them into one master map. With this, hopefully, we'll be able to start making midi conversions that sound like they should be in fire emblem. Here's the map:

http://dl.dropbox.co...ument%20map.bin

Just open that in a hex editor and paste it in your ROM pretty much anywhere that's word aligned.

Here are the instruments, with the names of the songs they were pulled from (in case you want to hear an example of said instrument).

Now, as you can see, the map is really rough right now. Or at least the labeling. Hopefully some of you can clear up some of the specifics on these instruments I was unsure on. Also, if an instrument doesn't work really well with conversion, you can also let me know that too.

Enjoy!

Hmm this is pretty elaborate (just had a moment to look at it in a little more detail), well done man. I might try using this for the songs that can benefit from it (although some songs might not since I tend to play around with MIDIs more than your average person... heheh).

Anyhow this is nice and props to you for making it.

Haha, playing around with midis might benefit you more than hurt you here. Especially since directly translating them to different instruments usually fails but if you know how to change the midi up a bit to accommodate for the switch then you can make it sound good.

I messed with my kratos battle import. This is what I got.

I'm saying that I played around with them already... as in, I wouldn't use it for old insertions that I've played around with, only new insertions or old insertions that might fit this instrument data. :\

^that is the sample file. Looks like the link got truncated here. Was still good on the shine of seals forum though

And a question as well. Is there some way I could use these samples in Anvil Studio or something? Would make it a lot easier than having to put it in the rom each time to listen to it. (I'm new to music authoring in general so kinda clueless here :/ )

not in Anvil Studio, I think FL studio has the ability to import custom instruments, but you'd still have to rip the instruments...

So I think just testing it is your best bet, unfortunately...

IF fl studio can do it that means lmms should be able to as well. and i wont be making the music the other members who are making the assets for our hack will be. Well hopefully zahmans(? can never remember his name) song tool can rip them if not sappy can and ill just spend the time to set it up for them. should be worth it in the end i hope!
