A few forums have a thread like this. Here is where you ask questions, ask for resource sites, etc.

Do NOT post all your own work here. Go to the gallery section for that.

(And yes, Im trying to get others here to get into GFXing. People have already started doing very well here, better than when I started)

So. How do you GFX? What tools do you need, and what basic info do you need?

Well, you can either use Photoshop, which can cost alot of money to buy, but is the most powerful image application everz, or GIMP, which is a free, and a pretty good subsitute for Photoshop. What kind of Basic info do you want?

Well, for a start, I reccomend following a tutorial. This will allow you to get familiar with a few techniques and tools. Here's a good one:
http://www.gimp-tuto...torial-370.html
Not too hard. Just scroll down and its there. If you have any other questions, just ask. Remember, you dont have to use the images and colors used in the tutorial, just follow the technique.

Oh, you must not have the Layer Dialog out...no matter, just look under "tools" or something on the main tool area (Its been a while since I last used GIMP) and look for "Layers"

But I don't have anything to work with. I can get the picture up there, but I can't do anything with it.

Of course you can... Unless I get you wrong entirely. Just look under "Tools" or whatever and there should be plenty tools you can use.

You can't even draw a simple line or something?

I think you should consider reading the documentation >_>

You need to use the Magic wand tool, or use a render. To move it, go to tools>Transform>Move (Or something)

I believe thats it. Tino, you have GIMP right? You made a banner on the old forums, do you still use it at all?

Sorry, for the late reply. Aside of messing around, no, not really, but I do have two actual signatures that I made with it (and they are the only two that I actually finished...)

That was the first one

And that was the second one

Are they any good for first signatures? I've had lots of good comments, but I prefer getting actual criticism since you actually learn something from that, which you do not from "omg tats awesum dood" tongue.gif

It is good XD

But if you want some criticism, I'd say add some borders, and try to make renders glow (Which is done in GIMP by cloning your render, and then doing a Gaussian blur on the lower one, which is in filters)

Whee... I'm not sure where this goes, so might as well put it here. What else can I do with this to improve it/make it better? This was made using Photoshop, by the way.
Thanks in advance ;D

D:

that looks awesome.

I totally want that.

Um, the word 'Unite' seems a little too light; perhaps change the transition in the gradient to go to a lighter red color than a glowy-whitish color.

Phoenix's outline makes him stand out, like he sort of pops-out and is in front of the image rather than on it. I think it looks fine but it depends on what you are going for and making it "flat" might make it look better, I wouldn't knwo without seeing.

That's it really, I'm not a great GFX artist so I can't say too much, xD

Awesome job, Darkstorm. I would say you should set up a gallery in the galleries sub-forum If you want to post more off your work.
