Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia / 3DS / May 23, 2017
When I finished Act 1 of the game, I told everyone in the Discord chat to start on hard mode, because I did that and it wasn't really that hard. I'm not taking that back, because only two stages in the game caused me to actually have to restart the chapter, the second to last stage in Act 4 of Celica's route and the final stage of the main storyline. (There is one more where I had to but that wasn't because I was doing it wrong, it was because I couldn't keep Boey or Leon alive no matter what I did because their poor stats made them death magnets. As soon as I evacuated them the same stage became trivial.) There are parts of the game where I really did have to re-evaluate the decisions I was making on the battlefield, all of them in Act 4, but because you can turn back time in this game a huge number of times, it almost never resulted in me making any major corrections. Postgame (Act 6) is a whole other beast I have no idea about.
Thoughts on my experience throughout...
I believe in judgment of humans through their judgment of fiction, for nothing else tells better of their disposition freed from apprehension.

You should, because I followed your advice and had plenty of issues due to bad growth rates and stupidly bulky enemies. I think I'm going to have to restart to fix this.

You already restarted because of Leon dying while he's green. I put up with shitty levels on most characters too.

No, I meant my file lol. Decided against it though. I'm already close to the end, I hope. >_>

It has been awhile and that means time for another list of games I beaten.
Donkey Kong Country 2/SNES, GBA, Virtual Console/May
Sonic & Knuckles/Genesis, Virtual Console/May
Puyo Puyo Tsu/SNES, Genesis, 3DS/May 30th
Sonic the Hedgehog/Genesis, GBA, Virtual Console/May 30th
- I know this is everyone's favourite game in the Donkey Kong Country trilogy as it is mine but not as much as a favourite than the first game. I actually played this game 102% while I was visiting my brother since he had it on his Super Nintendo and thought I should just play it for good time sake and just beaten it pretty quickly. It is still my favourite to this day.
- Sonic and Knuckles is a good game and I got to play it at my brother's place on Sega's Genesis mini and... Well... It is terrible. The controllers are wireless and if you want to change batteries you will need a screwdriver to open the back which is stupid. Anyway I Sonic and Knuckles but in my opinion it is not as great unless it is combined with Sonic 3.
- Oh man I am so happy I got to play this and it is really easy to beat in free play which is the only mode I got to play but it is still fun nonetheless. Puyo Puyo Tsu is the second game in the Puyo Puyo Series and I am quite happy I got to play it. It is as fun as I thought it would be and I definitely see myself playing through it again many times over. I am only able to play it on the Sega 3D Classics Collection which is why I have it in the first place.
- I also played this on Sega 3D Classics Collection and honestly Sonic the Hedgehog is pretty easy. I honestly believe it is a game you can waste some time if you are ever feel like playing something short.

Only a 9? What took off a point?
I mean, what would you rate it
Fire Emblem Echoes, 3DS, sometime last week?
Great game. 9/10. Would play again.
I'd probably give it a 9 too, -1 for map design and a couple of 'eh' moments on the plot or writing, and a semi-lame post-game. granted, the 9/10 is more an enjoyment level rating, objectively I'd probably give it closer to an 8-8.5/10, and besides a "Blazer-thinks-it's-masterpiece-tier"-game like Xenoblade X, basically no games get 10/10's for me, so yeah, a 9/10 is pretty good.

DKC2 was solid, a bit hard I think? a little confused by the /SNES/GBA thing though, was there a release of the game on the GBA? could the GBA really run an SNES game? I'm so ignorant/confused lol
Don't think I ever beat this game, might have played it but I'm not sure, if I did it was probably on an emulator since I never had a Genesis (sadface)
never played a Puyo Puyo game (maybe one day I'll play the Switch one) so not much I can say for this
Sonic's a nice series and I liked the 2D ones, I can't remember which is which anymore but I probably beat this one, and I think I beat 2 and 4 too, anyway, good stuff, based on your completed games it seems like you enjoy platformers a bit, I do too so yay lol

Psychonauts (PS3 port) - idk like a week or two ago.
Very solid old school type action platformer, I'm a sucker for these kind of games. Loved it.

Only a 9? What took off a point?
Act 2. Clearing a bunch of pirates out with nothing but 3 mages, a healer, and a single merc. lol
^ I haven't even played the game, I honestly only asked out of idle curiosity. I mean it's a fire emblem game so I'm sure I would enjoy it, but for me to give it an exact rating would be pretty silly lol.
Graphics: 10/10. I find absolutely nothing wrong with anything in the game, graphics-wise. (But I am very lenient on graphics to begin with, and am very easily appeased with scenery porn lol)
Music: 9.5/10: There's a very small handful of tracks that get on my nerves due to horrific vocals (See: Lord of a Dead Empire for the opera singer) but the rest of the music makes up for it.
Voices: 10/10. I have never seen a game with such perfect voice acting in all my life o_o
Gameplay: 9/10: I wouldn't say the gameplay is perfect, per se, as there is no such thing, but the mechanics and features of this game are an incredibly massive step up from what they were in Fates, and I don't find myself getting frustrated over stupid things often. (About the worst thing that's happened is an ambush that had two archers which killed Clair before I got a turn, but that was avoided by reordering my troops)
Story: 7/10: Alm's side of the story is great, although it does have its flaws. The main reason this scores so high is because I know that the original game was so bare-bones in story, so the additions they made to make things more interesting definitely worked. The major thing that turns me off is Celica's story, but I admit I'm probably just a little biased because all my favorite characters are in Alm's route.
In the end the score winds up 9.1 so I rounded down to 9. lol

I would have done that much sooner, but I was too busy not playing the lame story mode. I couldn't really follow it anyway. 3/10 for that one very small part of an otherwise amazing game. Soundtrack is excellent, the fighting is super fun as usual, the customization options are endless, online is smooth and not laggy at all so far. In short everyone who likes 3d arcade fighters should pick it up. It's the best tekken yet.

ahh I see, fair enough
I need to look into this game, since I do like action platformers... though I dislike when platformers have a lives or checkpoint system that makes you have to replay sections of a level (or enter levels) over and over again if you mess up, since I can end up making some silly mistakes and such and it becomes a bit tedious for me (as someone who is now too old and impatient, lol)
Tekken 7 story mode: June 22

probably won't get this for a while due to my circumstances being what they are but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless, like every other game it doesn't seem to be perfect but it seems to be a fun fighting game with some solid value so I think I can appreciate that
@BlueLeafeon the voice acting is pretty great, I don't really call things perfect by nature but a 10/10 is probably a fair assessment
if I had to break it up, I'd say something like
Gameplay: 8/10 objective, 9/10 personal enjoyment level - some of the main map designs and enemy unit placements are rather lacking in terms of promoting strategy which can hurt the gameplay a bit, and one might find the smaller cast of characters, somewhat simple dungeon exploration, or some other stuff a bit lacking, depending on what you like/compare it to, but personally I enjoyed it quite a bit regardless of its flaws, thus the higher personal enjoyment level
Graphics: 8.5/10 - character art is great, but some of the backgrounds, character models, and animations are rather lacking, and some of the map designs too I guess
Music: 9-9.5/10 - maybe just a little bit less variety than I'd like, but most songs are good or great, so it's not a big deal
Story: 7/10 - don't like some of the premise and events that happen but overall it's fine I guess
Writing: 8.5/10 - pretty solid writing overall, with only a few "eh" moments
no voice work category for me but it was excellent (well, I haven't finished my English playthrough but what I've done so far is great), and I do factor that into the rating of my overall enjoyment. however, I do not weigh the overall score based on scores for individual categories, the overall score is a bit different and not just the sum of the parts.... that's why even though most ratings are below a 9 I could give it a 9/10 on my enjoyment level, I tend to look a bit more at the positives so long as the negatives aren't large in quantity or quality (i.e. the negatives aren't overwhelming), and I'm also biased since it's Fire Emblem, so there's that. but my objective rating* is closer to an average rating for the different scores, or at least I'm guessing it is.
*still technically subjective, sure, I just mean that I look at it more from a design perspective and try to see both teh good and bad through other people's eyes, rather than through my own, thus not weighting the overall score based on how much I value certain elements. (for instance, I value gameplay, music, character design, and animations quite a bit in FE, but as long as the story isn't terrible, I'm pretty fine with it, and the writing only needs to be decent some of the time for me to be okay with it—that is, it doesn't need to be amazing, it's not like FE6/7/8 didn't have its weaknesses in writing but I enjoyed them plenty anyway, it's just a matter of expectations and how I see it and all that)

There is a GBA version that DKC2 got but it came with a boss that the SNES version didn't have. I haven't beaten that version yet so I don't know what's all in it.
Not a lot of people that I have heard or even knew has. It can be rough first playing but as you practice you get a better idea how to make chains. (That is a good choice. I have that one and haven't put it down since it came out. My mom is really good at getting All Clears which shocks me.)
I enjoy platformers as well as other genres. If it looks fun and is fun then I will enjoy the game no matter what genre it is.
Anyway it is time to get to the list.
Mario & Luigi Paper Jam/3DS/June 23rd
- I honestly had a lot of fun with this game. There were quite a bit where I had laughed. The game was difficult since you had Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario to control so getting used to three of the bros was a challenge in itself. I had fun with this game until the final stretch. Once I got to the final stretch I just wanted the game to end. That is the problem I had as well as there being too many fetch quests of finding toads and minigames. Don't get me wrong I liked the quests as well as the minigames but I felt there were too many where I had to skip the optional ones just to speed up the game. I can forgive this since the final battle was pretty awesome. It is a good game but it isn't great but it isn't bad either. To me it is an alright game. I played this game on and off so it took some time for me to beat it.

Man what a rush, it's been a while since I've been so engrossed in a games combat. Enjoyed myself so much that I already went and ordered the 3rd game, can't wait to see how it wraps up. So sad it took me this long to give this franchise a shot.

I really disliked the drawn-out/tedious nature of Dream Team where the game mostly felt like one big detour, so i have a feeling I was right in passing this one up, quests are cool and whatnot I just kind of like my content too feel fun and meaningful and I can't stand when games drag on, if there are like fetchquests or such that are mandatory that sounds especially bad, I like the Mario & Luigi humor and combat system but they put out so many of the games anyway (and I haven't even beaten Superstar Saga) so I guess I just don't feel the urge to play it, and based on what you said it doesn't sound like I should feel too bad about that XP

You were right to skip it. If you aren't as patient than I am then this is not the game for you. A friend of mine on a Discord server was absolutely pissed about the game and how Luigi was treated by Starlow.

Far Cry Classic
Not a fan at all, I'm only 5 or 6 missions in and I'm ready to call it quits already. You can definitely see how far Ubisoft has come with this franchise. Considering I only payed 3 bucks for this game I don't really feel inclined to finish it. I think it's on to Far Cry 2 for me.
