I don't know how busy people are in other places at this time of year, but I know I'm super busy, so what better time to procrastinate and write out a Fire Emblem debate

Anyone up for it?

I'm afraid I have 0 knowledge of the newest installment as I do not own a 3DS, and Fe:4 still stumps me to this day. Probably best to go with the GBA ones upwards

What Kind of Debate? Something on Gameplay, or perhaps Plot Points?

Hmm

Usually the format of debates was where both participants would choose a character and you would have to argue the viability of each throughout the game.

Obviously it's imbalanced if I picked Lyn (Lords are banned I think, she's an example) and you picked Renault from Fe:7 or something

But plot points and gameplay sound intersting as debates, not sure how to format them though

I'd be up for one, but it would have to be on FE8 or 13, and I have minimal experience with both despite my old 250+ hour save of 8. Most of that was tower abuse postgame, and what wasn't was likely tower abuse during the game.

For Plot Points, it would be easy enough; you choose an Aspect of the Plot which is left ambiguous (such as, for example, the Identity of Lilina's Mother, the Father of Lugh and Ray), or something which seems far-fetched (such as Zelgius and the Black Knight being the same Person), and each either argue for one possible Candidate, or debate why or why not a Plot Point is implausible.

I hardly know anything so I'd probably end up saying stupid things or else just having little to say and quitting XD, despite being the owner of one of the oldest Fire Emblem sites alive, I play the games rather casually so I don't know too much about the nitty gritty details, actually XD

It's best to play them so you enjoy them, or so I think.

That would be good for all the games except 4,7,9,10,13 since they don't have a completed game script available (on serenes forest) so it would be a gigantic nuisance if a plot detail is contained in the unlisted pats of the script so you would have to go play through the game just for that part. Though I do like this.

too lazy to look up but I'd be surprised if 7 didn't have a script and regardless we can look up the entire script using FEditor and 13, I think enough people play FE:A that we could probably figure things out without too much trouble lololol

I would be up for a debate of various kinds

I quite like the plot points one, even if I might be very rusty on some of the plots.

I agree that the best way to play games is for fun, but sometimes I get way too engrossed in all the little details of them, sadly I've forgotten a lot of the stuff I did know about FE, may have to relearn it

deleted the double post for you

and I myself probably wouldn't learn anymore even if I replayed the games just because I'm too lazy and can't be bothered to rewatch cutscenes and go for all the sidequests and extra maps and such lol

You're underestimating how long it actually has been since I played them.

Atleast a year and a half each I'd say, it wouldnt be so much learning new stuff as remembering old stuff

I would guess it's meant to be Ninian, if nothing else owing to the immense Changes to the Ending this can trigger, but I suppose it's a Subject discussed rather to Death, and a more interesting Topic can likely be found.

As far as I know, NinianXEliwood is supposed to be canon, so...

She's certainly the most likely to be Roy's mother, but I feel that you can't really call it canon if the sequel (it came first but still, chronologically) keeps it ambiguous and when it's possible for Eliwood to marry someone else in-game.

Well, if it's truly left completely ambiguous in FE6, then the identity of Roy's mother is really irrelevant. There's no plot holes that occur from any option as far as I know.
Side note: I'm not 100% positive, but I think Roy's genetic predisposition to red hair and blue eyes doesn't change regardless of who his mother is.
So, not really any point to argue over it at all that I can see. Ninian is slightly more implied in the plot, but that's about it.

Okay, I will do a unit vs unit debate with anyone

We both take a unit from one of the GBA games, and we write an argument as to why they should be included in any playthrough, for viability, strength, utility etc

I would prefer Fe:6 personally, but I'll let the other person choose!

We'd also need an impartial judge to help decide the winner

Zealot > everyone in fe6 combined
Seriously though, that would sound fun to do sometime, but I think there are already a lot of unit vs. unit debates like that.
