Hi,

 

I've just begun editing the text while hacking FE 7 using FEditor, and whenever I change any of the text, then save it and try to open the ROM, the following happens:  the game will run smoothly until it reaches edited text, then freezes before displaying it.

 

For example, at input index 0813 in the FE 7 rom, I make this change:

 

From

[SetName]??
Are you awake?[A][X]

 

 

To

[SetName]??
Am I awake?[A][X]

 

I'm using the VisualBoy Advance Emulator, and turned on logging of 'illegal byte read' and 'undefined instruction' from the tools, and it's printing a lot of the following message

 

Illegal Byte Read: (Some pointer) at 030033f8

 

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?  Thanks in advance, and I'm sorry if this question has already been answered, I searched a bit but couldn't find anything related to this issue.

That's super weird. Sorry for the delayed response, did you fix it? If not, consider these things:

 

- Is the ROM type correct? (The English type of the ROM and all that?)

 

- Are you by any chance using some non-standard US keyboard that could have secret weird characters? I don't think so, but uh... who knows lol

 

- Does a blank box (with no text) work? If not then the issue is with FEditor or the ROM (and not the text itself)

 

That's a super weird glitch though, for such a simple change. I'm surprised...

Yes the issue got fixed!  I just had to open the ROM once -> apply no changes & save -> close the rom -> reopen.  After that I could edit freely.  Not really sure why this works but it does.
