What all exactly is in it? I've heard you can recruit lords from other games like Roy and Lyn but what else is there? Does it expand the story or what? I'm confused as to what is actually included.

Depends.
Most are just basically "All-Stars" Fire Emblem which pits your force against some of FE's greatest heroes. One unit (the one with new artwork) from the map will offer to join you. Some of the harder ones also offer you skills of really good quality (Limit Break is the famous one).
One ("Golden Pack") is a free grinding map set. Free EXP/Money/legendary items for it. It's basically "pay to win".
One (Death's Embrace/Five-Anna Firefight/Roster Rescue) is a set of challenge maps. Each has its own difficulties (Death's Embrace has a huge area of the map which wipes units on it to 1 HP, Five-Anna Firefight has you rescue units all the way across the map, Roster Rescue has you charge across a map with lots of appearing/disappearing walls and has you hunt down a single enemy). Roster Rescue is worth it just for the dialogue to be quite honest and Death's Embrace is pretty much the creepiest this game ever gets...though that's not saying much.
One (The "Scrambles") is characterization, plain and simple. Many characters who don't get to speak to each other previously get to talk on certain maps. There's also the fanservice part where the Avatar can have a conversation with their husband/wife if they're one of the designated popular ones (Chrom/Gaius/Cordelia /Tharja/Inigo/Owain/Lucina/Severa) and gets to see them in alternate clothing...but that's besides the point...or not.
One (Future Past) is about the alternate world. This one could basically be read as the Epilogue to the game as you'll go through the other world, rescuing the children from their fated deaths. It's part story-part fun and some argue it's the way the game should have ended. I'd highly recommend this and the Scrambles.
One solo map (Apotheosis) is purely a challenge. If you've got nothing else to do and have a massively overpowered army, this is the only map even resembling tactical challenge. You fight stupidly powerful enemies...and that's about it.
