Hmm, wasn't sure what to expect, so this is what you meant, huh.
Remember when sunlight was our eternal enemy back when our handheld gaming screens looked like this?
not really but when I went back to play my GBA some time ago I was reminded lol
Seeing as Roy's our boy and this is the game I've replayed the most out of every FE game I figured it was high time for me to do what needed to be done.
No, I don't mean increasing the accuracy of axes. Someone else did that already.
yay FE6
lolaxes
Don't really mind the stat changes but some of the recolors I don't really like (Lance and Rutger, for instance), the blushing is weird/I could do without, new Roy is... not the worst but I don't really like him, I'm confused as to why Wade's hair is green now (did you also recolor his sister?), what the heck is with that weird shoujo manga effect you used a couple times in your post? lol, were 47, 55, and 86 always like that???, Jagen somehow looks even older, Karel looks super weird... ok, some of these recolors must be a result of this
Wait why have all the brunettes gone red, green or black haired?
You either know the reason or shouldn't question it lest you want me to go on a rant about hair dye.
sorry but you're going to have to explain this nonsense lol
---
I don't agree with getting rid of the super effectiveness for the legendary weapons but whatever. hopefully they aren't nerfed too hard...
I like the small buffs to the female characters you mentioned though
Al is cool, it would have been nice to see him (as long as he's not weird-looking like Roy *shot*)
The Eliwood/Hector changes are definitely like ???? (my brain doesn't like this/can't handle it, also where's the bloody version of Hector)
tbh I prefer the original in various ways (mostly the colors--you and I seem to have different preferences for colors, lol) it's not bad and could prove a solid change of pace for some~

I thought the purpose of making Roy look attractive to those girls was evident.

I very much prefer Lance's new look (before his and Alan's hypersaturated color searing through the monitor basically made me bench them ASAP...) but I can agree in that I couldn't really decide what to do with Rutger in terms of making him look good. Official art's colors are less appealing than originals, originals kind of become either too intense or too dull from adjustment...
lol, were 47, 55, and 86 always like that??? Karel looks super weird...
No, I shoved a helmet on 47, 55 is the result of making incredibly unimportant NPCs look even further unimportant by taking away their colorful armor, and 86 is another byproduct of that kind of idea.
I agree in that it's hard to get Karel looking like he should because the overall coloring is stronger than before but I think you shouldn't really make judgments based on images that have even smaller dimensions than the original size, I can't even see Gale's eyes from the thumbnail.
I don't agree with getting rid of the super effectiveness for the legendary weapons but whatever. hopefully they aren't nerfed too hard...
IIRC all of them except the tomes (because from what I remember the weight of those things suck anyway and mages have the squishiness disadvantage against dragons) have like 2 less Might. The super effectiveness removal is because everybody knows the last two chapters of FE6 are comically easy with it.
Al is cool, it would have been nice to see him (as long as he's not weird-looking like Roy *shot*)
I made him forever ago so he's probably stranger than Roy is (and it's based on that one time his hair grew long)

Pretty sure FE6 was never on the standard DS models, or on the N!3DS.
With Gameboys you actually WANTED to be in the sun, as long as the sun wasn't glaring off your screen. You could see EVERYTHING with PRISTINE detail if you were in sunlight.
I still play my GBA. I should know.

also i'm gonna need an explanation for the hair dye thing too.

In case anyone has already patched their ROM before the making of this post for when they feel like playing FE6 again sometime, I've updated it with more adjustments to Clarine, Klein, Elphin, Rutger, Lance, and Karel, replacing the link in the first post. It is advised to patch a clean ROM rather than one that's already been patched to avoid complications.

I can't remember actually ever bringing an OG GBA outside (funnily enough) but I do remember my GBASP (which has a backlight that can be turned off) being virtually impossible to see on in places with lots of sunshine with the backlight off, with the example picture being a simulation of when the sun isn't messing with you...I wonder what's different about them.

...I don't think you're remembering correctly. I ONLY ever use my GBA SP these days for its backlight, and I can see perfectly fine in direct sunlight.
Now, if we were talking about the original DS, then yeah, sure. You can't see DIDDLY SQUAT in the sunlight. On the original 3DS, you could tilt the screen just right and the colors would bleed out of the screen, but you could actually see, strangely enough. Not sure what caused this effect, but my N!3DSXL doesn't have this trait. So sunlight is my eternal enemy with my 3DS XL.
But GBA SP? Just turn the backlight off to save battery and play in the sun.

Hold up.
ELIWOOD IS 37 IN FE6? Christ how sickly is he to look the way he does originally. I almost feel like it would be more accurate to use my replacement if he did not have such a debilitating health condition. Maybe with a few age lines like Zealot or something. (though Zealot himself looks more like someone in his forties to me)

I wish I could just test it myself since I do still have my GBASP, but it's battery has been dead for ages and my charger has probably gone to oblivion.

I must say I kinda miss Hector's world conqueror beard from the original. Also, is the masked one Gonzalez? If so... why?

^yeah the beard was maybe a bit much but still somehow kinda cool idk
and yeah I guess Eliwood really was sick LOL
I would add to this sunlight conversation but sadly I can't really remember crap except that sometimes the struggle was real
Al looks fine I think in part because he doesn't really have precedence for a GBA portrait so there's not much to compare to/not much bias as far as how he "should" look *shrug*
You should have made it so Roy promotes earlier but that might be asking for a bit much from you lol (I did it in mine but all I did was make it so that like, the Hero Crest promotes Roy, added another Hero Crest somewhere, and then got rid of the promotion event in super-late-game so he doesn't promote--that being said I haven't even hit said promotion scene so I'll soon see if it works... and even if it does I don't remember what I did so you'd have to like, reverse engineer my patch using NUPS' patch difference thing or whatever and find out what random values I changed and to what)

I may or may not have made the Sword of Seals have infinite uses and nerfed its power simply because I wanted to watch those awesome flaming sword animations. Really sucked I had to wait so long to get it, though.
Remind me to use your version next time. lol

It makes enough sense for someone conscious of their ugly face to cover it and I don't want to look at it.

Merc is probably part of the village in that one chapter that threw stones at Gonzales for helping the girl or w/e, what a jerk

No, I'm the one that just straight up has someone kill him before he's recruited. Preferably by Lilina herself.

Even if he does, Gonzalez won't hit Merc with it so it won't matter.
