Fifteen year old Zaviel Brambold, prince of Cathcart, grows suspicious of his father and mother, Desmod and Zavilla Brambold. He’s seen his mother summon peasants to the throne room only to never be seen again. Meanwhile his father has been heavily investing in the military. Zaviel decides to spy on his parents to attempt to disprove his growing suspicion that they have a criminal agenda. One day he catches her mother performing an ancient ritual on her oldest daughter, Modesta. Unfortunately, Zavilla catches a glimpse of him. Already knowing that Zaviel is suspicious of her, she consults Desmod and forces him to set up an assassination to wipe her slate clean.
Zaviel has a growing worry that his youngest sister, Zava, will partake in something similar to what he saw to Modesta. Out of desperation, he consults his introverted father, Desmod for advice. Unfortunately, his meeting was the trap to have Zaviel murdered. Luckily, Desmod told Zaviel’s servant, Gil, about the set up as he wishes not to have his only son killed. With the help of Gil, Zaviel escapes to another country far away to the West. As for his servant, he is on the run.
Six years since his escape, he now wanders the country of Pellos. Where, under his new alias, Bram, protects those in need. He still worries about the condition of his youngest sister, Zava. And although he and Modesta aren’t exactly the best of siblings, Bram still wonders what happened that night...
Little does he know, a family reunion is due a lot sooner than expected.
