@  xcrash1998 : (30 November 2019 - 11:07 PM) New fictional holiday "Index Day"
@  Fire Blazer : (28 November 2019 - 08:52 PM) yeah just guest bots and stuff I think :( we really were active once upon a time though...
@  kirant : (26 November 2019 - 03:48 PM) No invasion. I imagine a lot of guest bots visiting for indexing purposes.
@  xcrash1998 : (26 November 2019 - 02:15 PM) How is most people online at 959 for the 8th of October of this year? Is that right? Did I miss something or was there somekind of spambot invasion?
@  xcrash1998 : (26 November 2019 - 02:06 PM) I know what you mean, it gets awkard to post something unrelated to the current conversation, and even if somebody picks up on it, it would just become a huge mess in the c hatbox if a multitude of groups talk about different topics.
@  Fire Blazer : (10 November 2019 - 11:45 PM) especially better imo if you want to update on a topic but like only occasionally (e.g. a project you're working on or a let's play of a game)
@  Fire Blazer : (10 November 2019 - 11:44 PM) it's hard for me to explain precisely why but forums just like work better for meaningful discussion over a longer period of time ig
@  Fire Blazer : (10 November 2019 - 11:44 PM) but that's def just not hte same ig, idk
@  Fire Blazer : (10 November 2019 - 11:44 PM) yeah, you can also kind of respond at your own pace on forums. Discord conversations are often like... it's awkward to respond to something that happened a while ago, especially if the server is active, but even just in general. since you sort of need to keep track of multiple conversations at once at times, and it's not like it has a good reply/quote system ala forums, closest thing really is to copy/paste or screenshot the text you're responding to and then type a response below
@  Elwood : (09 November 2019 - 11:29 AM) Adding on to what's been said, I just enjoy the order and structure of the forums. You can look through the threads and know exactly what people are talking about. Conversation get lost and buried on discord which is why I'm not a big fan of it.
@  kirant : (06 November 2019 - 05:31 AM) I enjoy that part of forums too. They become niche communities where you can have very specialized conversations as opposed to the cluttered mess in Discord.
@  Ezra : (31 October 2019 - 01:17 AM) Yeah, part of me wishes I could go back to the times forums were more prevalent. I really enjoyed how even several different forums based off the same franchise could feel so different. It's not like what we now is bad though, I just feel nostalgic for old times.
@  Fire Blazer : (30 October 2019 - 06:39 AM) also forums in general are just not as prevalent, there are so many other ways to interact these days, like Twitter, FB, Tumblr, etc., where you can just throw your thoughts into the void. I think that's the real issue and that the only people rly interested in forums these days are either super dedicated to whatever they're about, have a specific reason/need to (e.g. support forums), or grew up with them and are thus attached to the idea enough to continue to try and use them (this was kinda me for a while lol but things happen, I couldn't keep it up forever)
@  Fire Blazer : (30 October 2019 - 06:36 AM) I've posted on SF for various reasons ofc but in terms of like making friends and stuff it's p. much just been smaller groups/forums, yeah. mainly FES
@  Elwood : (27 October 2019 - 10:08 PM) Only reason I'm even on Serenes was because I had hacking questions. @Ezra yeah I figured it must be an age thing. I've been called an old man by many a child because I use Facebook.
@  kirant : (26 October 2019 - 09:39 PM) It's strange. I don't think I've ever posted on Serenes...period. I've always been a fan of smaller forums.
@  Ezra : (26 October 2019 - 05:49 AM) I think it's because a lot of newer FE players didn't frequent forums growing up. And those that do probably end up on Serenes.
@  Elwood : (25 October 2019 - 07:30 AM) I would love to revitalize this place I'm just not sure how that would be done. I mean with how main stream FE seems to have become I'm honestly surprised we don't have more members.
@  Fire Blazer : (21 October 2019 - 08:04 PM) tfw u not coming here results in not seeing a PM from last month T_T ok gonna try and check at least every couple weeks now even if there's nothing here, lol...
@  Fire Blazer : (21 October 2019 - 07:54 PM) I come here almost never because I've fallen out of habit and basically just accepted the forums are dead :( it's neat you come here every day tho

Hey all! So now that I'm done with exams I have enough free time to tackle some things I just couldn't justify working on before. One of those was getting up the new skins. Admittedly, I was actually waiting on Shu to get me the final graphics for the skins, but he's busy and I don't want to wait anymore.

So first, note that these skins can kind of be considered works in progress and the banners and other graphics might change. We might also make other small tweaks. If you have any suggestions, you're free to share them, but I make no promises about actually following up on any of them. (As a note, we're not looking for skin suggestions, as we already have 4 more planned and it'll take some time before we get those up... and we can only do so much work).

Next thing to note is that I wanted the Nohr skin to be a darker skin overall but due to how the skinning system for this forum software is set up I found that it didn't look good when I made things really dark. So both themes are the same general light theme, just with a few different main colors (red vs. purple really) and different banners.

How To Change Your Skin

- Scroll down to the very bottom and check the bottom-left. Provided you are logged in, you should see something called "Change Theme". Click on it to choose from one of the three available themes.

"The banners look bad! These graphics should be more Fire Emblem-y! Bla bla bla!"

- It's a work in progress. But I think having something up besides just the blue skin is better than nothing, so that's why we're going with this. Even the banners are a WIP and I just didn't want to wait on Shu anymore. He might actually get upset at me for using these ones, but then again it's Shu, so idk and it's his fault for taking so long, I can only be "that guy" and pester him so much before I risk him telling me off for being so annoying lol

Uh I guess that's it, let me know if anything comes up...

no one wants to hear about your SF crap yeah that's what I was talking about in the post, I wanted that one but it didn't work out since people like you are too sensitive and quick to criticize *shot*

I'm assuming these skins are going to get the gradients of the default skin later on?

or something more if Shu feels like being creative about it I guess

Not unless Shu is willing to do it because at the very least, I am lazy and incompetent. And I'm pretty sure Shu is at least lazy. i gave him access to do what he wants, so it comes down to effort really. For now though it's pretty much just graphics  like the topic icons and the banner that I'm thinking will be changed eventually. Maybe. Again, it's really all up to Shu, I kinda did my part XP

Hmm I think I'm gonna stick to the New Age Theme. The new ones are cool but I don't think the colors mesh together overall. And, yes I read it's a work in progress, just posting some feedback, or harsh criticism take it as you wish. I'll probably wait until Shu releases the final graphics.

Cool to see that the forum is getting some of the old features back :Dnow we just need the member Icons and we're back to normal.

BTW, I take map requests if anyone wants to make one XD, just send me a PM and I'll most likely accept. If you wanna see some of previous work you can visit my gallery here, I'd skip to the end because I've improved alot XD.

Eh well meh, I'm not a pro skinner and that's pretty vague critique so I'm not going to do anything about it XD. patience, I don't know how to code member icon functionality, so unless someone with PHP knowledge wants to help me, it's probably going to be a while yet. first I have to learn a programming language, THEN after what will probably several hours of struggling, I might be able to implement it, lolol

I think I like the Hoshido one of all three so far.  The Nohr one has a bit too much dark/light dichotomy for my enjoyment.  The purple/white just doesn't work.  The pink in the Hoshido theme is a bit distracting but it holds together better than the other two.

New Age is alright except it's a bit bland...no fault of Blazer's but blue is well overdone for forum colours.  I think chrome grey will probably be the next to go this way.

Is there some kind of template out there for this forum format, I want to see how limited the options for customizing it is. (whether I'll ever be assed to do enough graphics for it to contribute if it were ever necessary is another matter.)

yeah I tried to fix that about Nohr and it didn't work, so I had to settle for this >_>; the pink I could maybe fix but it'd be a job better suited to someone with a better grasp of theming (I don't think it's Shu's specialty but even he'd probably be better than me so maybe I'll ask him to fiddle with it)

New Age is pretty much just the default theme haha we gotta get a new banner up for it and replace the icons, not sure what else we could do. I agree blue is pretty common though, maybe too common. I wish I had some guidance/help here, this just isn't one of my strong points XD. What do you mean by that last line about chrome grey though? Didn't quite grasp your intended meaning there

umm not really, I mean there's a CSS file (or a bunch of them, maybe) somewhere... there's also a way to edit skins by just changing the colors and stuff but it's limited in that you can't change much more than colors and you can't change the color of every element on the skin (which was a problem). sadly I can't really show you that without giving you admin access, which isn't something I'm willing to do, sorry :(

I asked mainly because Serenesforest uses the same format, so I figured it wasn't built up from scratch or something like that. I have tried to make websites before that could do some more fancy things, but that was all tool-assisted with little code editing

Light-ish grey colours are often used currently and I suspect that in a few years they'll be old hat in the same way blue tones are right now.

Feels wierd deciding on a theme, when I'm rather in the dark about each and the game not being out yet, and not wanting to investigate more trying to avoid potential spoilers. lol I have been a large fan of purple for a long time now though, so I might go with that one.

ahh okay, I hadn't really noticed/wasn't really aware of the former, but that makes sense

we're not using this skin per se, the forum software is IP.Board though which is also what SF uses, yes—naturally I'm not capable of building up such a capable forum software from scratch XD. I could get the skin you linked to (or another one) if people wanted it... and if I had the money
