Hello forum dwellers,
As the title says, I would like to know how I can edit dialogue in the most painless, least intrusive method possible. The game to be edited is FE7. Again, I only want to change the dialogue, given that condition, is there an easy way to do this?

I have checked it out. (It was the first thing I checked in fact) I found the section on text editing with FE Adv, however I need help in locating specific dialog using the program. For example, I wish to edit the opening dialog of each of the chapters, but cycling through the text entries give me in-game text in shops, support conversations etc. I will probably get to this eventually, but I would like to start with the chapter intro conversations. Basically, I need to know the text entry codes for each of the chapters intros. How/where can I get this info? Or even better, is there a more intuitive interface I can use?
Thanks for your reply

The easiest way would be to use FEditor, there are a bunch of chapters on it in Blazers Ultimate Tutorial, the doc that Cero Linked above. It can cause some problems (read as: It has broken my game several times) but that seems to be the minority (read as: just me).

BTW, I take map requests if anyone wants to make one XD, just send me a PM and I'll most likely accept. If you wanna see some of previous work you can visit my gallery here, I'd skip to the end because I've improved alot XD.

There's a search function under the text editor, as long as you type in the original text exactly as it appears in the game you can search for it. However if something specific is mentioned during the dialogue it's easiest to search for that one word until you find what you're looking for

Thanks for the help, I am, in fact, using FEditor to edit the text and I have been trying to use the search function with little success. Does the search tool only look at the current text entry or the entire library of text entries (i.e the whole game)? I've been putting in exact sentences but it hasn't been working.
Any help would be greatly appreciated (like specific things I can search to easily jump to a certain chapter etc.). Thanks.

Give me the text you're trying to search for, I'll find it and give you the offset if I can find it. Are you sure you've typed in everything EXACTLY as it appears in the game? If you missed any punctuation it probably won't work at all which is why it's easier to search for smaller things like a name or specific words.
Edit: if you do give it to me to find I may not be able to reply immediately.can't always use my computer during the week, I'm actually a very busy person atm so it could be until Saturday that I get to look for it.

it searches the "entire library of text entries" as you called it, but you have to be very specific when you use the Search function. The text has to be exactly the same or it won't find it.

Thanks for the very kind offer Zac122, but I seem to have gotten the hang of it now. I tired using smaller search queries and it works now. Thanks again to everyone who helped, I appreciate it.
