@  Fire Blazer : (16 December 2017 - 12:13 AM) (pokes head in)
@  Fire Blazer : (06 December 2017 - 07:16 PM) if the VA strike helped bring in a bit more diversity, then I suppose that's a good thing, lol
@  kirant : (29 November 2017 - 08:07 PM) What I'm trying to get at is that the variety might have been caused by necessity by developers. As much as I was always a fan, I don't think some certain VAs that I thought had great range (ex - Cherami Leigh, DC Douglas) would have gotten their bigger roles without such a strike.
@  kirant : (29 November 2017 - 08:05 PM) I think it's mostly because of a VA strike. A bunch have agreed to not work with major game creators (until an agreement was reached early November this year). This included some extremely prominent VAs (ex - Jennifer Hale).
@  Fire Blazer : (29 November 2017 - 03:36 PM) I feel like the variety is increasing a little bit though, if only because with voice acting becoming more common and people recognizing voices more, there's a little bit of benefit to getting some different voices, perhaps
@  Fire Blazer : (29 November 2017 - 03:34 PM) lol yeah there are some really prominent VOs that will get a lot of roles, and often times big ones
@  xcrash1998 : (27 November 2017 - 05:59 PM) Oh, ok fine. You can ignore the post
@  xcrash1998 : (27 November 2017 - 05:58 PM) Nope was an error on my end
@  kirant : (26 November 2017 - 10:32 PM) Troy Baker takes an insane number of roles. Him, Matt Mercer, and Laura Bailey all seem to be plastered all over games.
@  xcrash1998 : (26 November 2017 - 07:27 PM) Fire Blazer Yeah you are right. Just depends on how far it goes but then there is the question on what is to far or still ok.
@  Idiot : (26 November 2017 - 05:26 AM) There was a game I recently played where Troy Baker did the voice for like 4 different character. That dude is in everything.
@  Mig64 : (25 November 2017 - 05:57 AM) So I was watching the character intros for Fire Emblem Warriors, and I have to say Gharnef should've been voiced by Troy Baker.
https://tinyurl.com/TroyBakerGuldan
@  Fire Blazer : (24 November 2017 - 01:47 PM) and I think it'll stay this way for a bit. do you not like it? any alternatives that don't compromise the benefits of DLC? (e.g. Smash 4 DLC characters; would you rather delay the game for more characters, just so that they aren't released as DLC instead?)
@  Fire Blazer : (24 November 2017 - 01:46 PM) and you can see how they do their mobile games, so... yeah, Nintendo was a bit late to do it, but they eventually did join the other big companies with the new way of selling games and such
@  Fire Blazer : (24 November 2017 - 01:46 PM) uh, idk. I'm not against DLC as a whole, I just want it to be executed well. which to me mainly means, the original game should be a full experience, and any DLC should be extras and adequately priced; if you're selling a single costume for $1, or a single new gameplay map for $3, that kinda thing, that's way overpriced IMO.
@  xcrash1998 : (23 November 2017 - 08:12 PM) I mean in terms of how they sell their games and then there are DLC's and every thing. Nintendo is clearly going into that kind of direction. (Actually is doing that already). Not that I am against them trying to keep profit high to stay in the business but there needs to be a better way.
@  xcrash1998 : (23 November 2017 - 08:09 PM) How do you think will nintendo change in the future
@  Fire Blazer : (13 November 2017 - 08:55 PM) lol, perhaps
@  kirant : (13 November 2017 - 07:19 PM) I assume nostalgia hits as soon as we get old enough to "fall out" of things.
@  Rujio : (13 November 2017 - 03:57 PM) aren't we supposed to be too young for nostalgia or something?

Suggested this on the discord chat, and a couple people seemed interested, so i figured i'd throw a post up on the forum. the idea is that entrants will put together a playlist of their favorite video game music, and the rest of us(entrants included) will vote on the best one. very simple stuff, but i think it'll be a lot of fun.

Rules:

  • your playlist must include 10 songs.
  • songs must have been featured during gameplay/cutscene/end credits.
  • remixes(official or otherwise) are not permitted unless they were featured in game.
  • try to get songs from different games. you can have a few from one game, but please do not have 10 songs from a single game.
  • voting will happen in a multiple choice format. please only vote for three people(idk if i have control over that in the poll settings, but if i don't i'll just leave it up to you guys to keep yourselves honest =P)
  • you CAN vote for your own entry, but please do not only vote for yourself if you do. i understand that some of us will think our taste in music is the best, but lets try and make this a good competition ^_^
  • have fun with it!(yes this is a rule. i demand that you have fun with this)
  • as kirant has pointed out I wasn't clear on pieces with lyrics. That's perfectly fine as long as the song with the lyrics was featured in game.
  • music that was not originally made to be a part of the game it is in its not allowed(I won't be checking this, so if you're not entirely sure about whether it was made for the game or not just make a judgment call for yourself)

Lol this was fun, but only because it was a rule. Otherwise I would have done it with every bit of resistance in my body. At the very least I got to listen to all these songs in succession, which was rad.

Also sorry if there's a better way to do a playlist, this was the first thing that came to mind. Also, no specific order.

Sure.  I'm game.

Let's try to for this without it looking ugly.  Sorted alphabetically by game.  Also wasn't 100% sure on the rule for lyric pieces so I only took one.

Spoiler

I'm 100% sure everyone will know my music preferences after this.  But the series' music changes genre so many times.

@kirant thank you for pointing out that I never mentioned pieces with lyrics. Added another rule to make sure people knew that it is in fact ok to use Songs with lyrics in them (and another rule was added to make sure the songs were originally made for the game they are featured in), so feel free to change up your list if you need to. The same goes for everyone else as well, if you decide to enter then you can change your list at any time until all the entries are in (I'll decide the end date later based on how many entries there are, how often people enter, etc.)

I ordered them in a way that would cause the least jarring transition going into the next track so I suggest starting it from the beginning and making sure shuffle is off.

Let's try to for this without it looking ugly.

I'd make that a playlist for you if you don't have a YT account or something but I'd have to notice being informed of any changes in your selection if you were to have any.

I have a YT account - I just never use the playlist function.  Don't worry about it.  I was just talking about how FE Shrine only embeds your first 2 YT videos.

Gonna be honest I have not played 99% of the games most of y'alls songs came from so I hadn't heard them before. That being said I went with lists that had songs I HAD heard and absolutely loved. Bblues is best cause we had the Fable theme on both our lists.

I voted for me (duh), didn't vote for BlueLeafeon because of creepy tunes in her playlist, and voted for kirant and Elwood due to feeling like they had the tracks that stood out the most to me out of what other people had to offer.

Life Will Change
This isn't really a specific feeling I have towards this track, but rather the way I feel hearing any of P5's vocal tracks. There's probably a huge bias in how much the visual aesthetic helps convey its awesomeness, but I found that since I usually don't find myself exposed to this type of music and how much it contributed to the hype it got me for the idea of the story centering around individuals who consider themselves phantom thieves, it's gained a distinctive quality that I feel compliments what it was meant for better than anything designed for ambience, though that isn't to say that it isn't a good song without its context either.

The Battle for Everyone's Souls
So to be honest when I hear this song I feel like it's got a certain repetition about it that sort of makes it feel like it drags on, but at the same time this allows for a kind of relaxed feeling as it transitions into its following phases in addition to giving an atmosphere of getting pumped up for something climatic. It's not overbearing, but manages to convey a sense of strength and elegance with its stability and mixture of sounds that have contrasting connotations associated with them. Definitely great for looping.

Dark Prison
I'm feeling someone approaching. Someone unstoppable. Someone who can take on a hundred opponents without breaking a sweat has just jumped into the fray. Listening to the original length (kirant's link is actually slightly extended) alongside its speed and choice of instruments gives me a sense that no efforts on the part of who this track belongs to were in vain. A straightforward, no-nonsense track that overwhelms you with awe.

Blue Bird Lamentation
It uses a music box. That's a lot it has going for it in itself, and it's also the only instrument that is used throughout the entire track. No matter how epic the rest of the sounds try to be, it never overshadows the sound of the music box because of its unusual nature, a very small, reserved set of sounds, almost fading away, and with the implied context this track provides, that tells you something about what happened. What's left after all that's been done. It almost makes me want to reach out, to come closer and closer to reclaim what little could have remained to fight for out there, perhaps in disbelief of having lost that forever.

Snake Eater
I climbed that ladder too.

Dr. Wily's Castle
To be honest I wouldn't really say that I particularly like this track(not that I dislike it either), but something that I do know is that I heard it over 8 years ago and wondered all this time just what the source for the tune actually was. Coming across it now and realizing it was worth remembering for all this time is something remarkable in itself.

Trooper and the Maid
Let's be real here how often do you get to indulge in a sea shanty amongst ye hearty maties in a videogame. This is the track that made me vote Elwood over bblues. It's like the last drink you've downed at the end of a satisfying meal. There's something great about concluding his playlist on this of all things.

voted for bblues, kirant, and myself. (i actually don't think mine is quite as good as a whole as the other two, but it has some of my favorite music period =P)

i have a hard time deciding which is better between bblues' and kirant's actually. it's a real toss up =/

shoutout to elwood for "the dawn will come" though, that is a super cool scene in the game, and the music was perfect for it.

Wait. Which ones are creepy? Boo Manor is the only one even remotely creepy, and it's far from being the worst. O_o;

EDIT: Oh right, Sonic Heroes. I don't actually consider that one creepy lol.

Looks like nobody liked my list. Oh well.

Ha.  Finally getting around to this.

Favourites from each list...all had some standouts for sure. Limiting myself to one though as if I don't, I'll end up listing the entire playlist:

 - Idiot: The End of a Thought

 - Mercurius: Final Battle

 - Blue Leafeon: Remnant of Twilight

 - bblues: Ni No Kuni (Main Theme)

 - zac: Reaching out for our Future

 - Elwood: Dr. Wily's Castle

Going to try this a little differently.  Won't say who I voted for (didn't vote for myself though - just doesn't seem like the intent of the voting cheme at the end of the day) but will instead I'll provide some rationale on why I picked my own pieces.

ahh dang, this seems fun and I like video game music so much, I feel bad I've been so inactive now, lol

I guess on the bright side, I now have a lot of music to listen to the next time I'm working and bored, so I'll vote after I've actually gave everything somewhat of a chance, haha
