I did Apotheosis secret route a while back, and it's not too bad if you prepare.

1. Use everything you said in your post (forged braves, all those skills, etc.) The only time you shouldn't use a forged brave is for 1-2 range, where you should use a legendary (Ragnell, Gradivus, etc). You can do it without limit breaker but it will be harder.

2. Designate people into lead and support units, and make sure those pairs are either S ranked or at least A ranked. My support units were usually berserkers and Chrom, and I gave the berserkers all the +strength/attack skills possible (including aggressor) and Chrom every skill that would up his dual strike chance. It's really important to one-round enemies, and that's borderline impossible without good support units, since support units bypass skills like Aegis+ and Pavise+.
My primary attackers were children characters with galeforce and luna, usually, and my male avatar.

3. Pairings don't matter too much. I did my Apotheosis run in a non-optimized file, but most of the children did have galeforce.

4. 1-2 dedicated staff users with lots of rescue/fortify. Other magic users who can wield staffs should have a rescue/fortify on hand, but should concentrate on attacking and only use the staff if necessary or in a pinch (or if you mess up).

5. 1-2 rallybots with a wide variety of rallies. I used bride DLC Catria as my main rallybot because she is a female (females get most of the better rallies) and comes with rally strength.

I personally think Awakening's mechanics regarding skills are the best, but personal skills (possibly in addition to class skills?) would have made it better.
