Well this year I signed up for Computer programming in hopes of learning how to program games. In short the only things I've learned to make are Tic -Tac -Toe and Bricks. I know that these are the basics but I want to know how to make(for now) a simple 2-D Rpg or something like that. Could anyone tell me where to start and what programs to use.

What programs to use? Do you actually want to program it yourself, or do you want to make the game using programs like RPG Maker?

Either way, completely programming a 2D RPG is a pretty tough job. You're going to need all the graphics, music, and all those things and programming it is probably going to be a very tough job. What programs you need? Whatever programming language you want to use and a compiler. That's all, I think (though some kind of IDE like CodeBlocks would be a big help).

RPG Maker is an application that lets you create 2D RPG games without needing to know any programming.

Which programming language are you learning, and which aspects of that language do you already know?

Well I pretty much just started with BASIC. I know how to use most of the objects and a little programming. I know that with the knowledge I have now it'll be hard to create a game but I still wanna know the basics at least.

I personally don't know any BASIC at all, so I'm afraid I can't help you with that. I have slight C++ knowledge, so I could've helped you with that, but yeah...

I also don't really know the pros and cons of BASIC and all that. I basically don't know anything about it. Perhaps you can ask for some more information on some kind of programming site?

I recommend you go for RPG Maker XP or VX, though, because those also allow you to use the Ruby (IIRC) language for much, much more flexibility.

I personally am not familiar with RPG Maker XP, because it won't run on my computer for whatever reason, but if you know how to do it in RPG Maker 2000/2003 (if you've ever used that), I doubt it's much different than how it works in those two versions.

I use Game Maker 7. It's quick and easy, plus our school had a tutorial class on how to use Game Maker so I'm pretty good with it.

EDIT: DON'T USE RPG MAKER!!! IT SUCKS!! There are way better game making programs.
