Well I did consider that and a few others, but each has their flaws.
Current System:
One vote polls are crap, if we had a huge voter pool (say 50) it's be more reasonable, but FESh is sort of a small community now xD
Rating System
Leads to too much conflict. For example in the current poll someone might give Ed's entry 0. Saying it's not a valid entry. And that'd lead to spriters quitting the competition pissed off. It's probably the most in-depth and useful, but from experience it causes too much trouble.
Top 3.
This one's probably the safest to go with, though I also found that less people tend to vote when this system is adopted. People seem to like making quick votes. Bang bang and bang = Done. This system requires them to scroll up and down recording names, and placing their top 3 in a ranking order which seems to turn off the lazy people.
Multichoice Thumbs up/down
Was the one I wanted to try, but as I ranted above, doesn't work >_<
Trying to see if I can get around it via a third party site atm.

Third party websites have the issue of letting anyone vote. Anyone.
Whereas from what I remember someone here can see what members voted for who, and if some guy that suspiciously signed up 2 minutes ago and never made a post just voted for it, then such a vote could just be ignored.
Also to be honest I don't think people that don't even make a minor effort to vote for what they like best should really even be considered. I've even seen people vote for something before, then see something they like more after scrolling down a little, and then realizing that they couldn't even change their vote.

I believe in judgment of humans through their judgment of fiction, for nothing else tells better of their disposition freed from apprehension.

Check my post. Thinking of ways to add user confirmation atm. or everyone could just get a Google account/use their youtube account and I could share it to only voters
Alternatively, we could make the contests voting into a separate, private forum and post there, or Blazer could grant me HTML privileges to post the polls there. Heck, blazer could give himself HTML privileges and post there. >_>

@Hatless
Good point, Websites that act as third parties will probably go off IP address instead of accounts, (And frankly no one wants to sign up to another site just to vote) So I'm not fussed over the account thing, but people might vote once from home, once from work, and once from a friends house etc. And those of us who aren't internet dunces probably know about something called a proxy xD
Personally I'm completely behind you on the effort thing. One of the main reasons I threw a hissy fit was because Pie said it was too complicated and locked the thread When it's not really complicated at all. But we're good now, we're both on the negotiating table... right? xD
Might be an idea to think about a few voting systems this week and hold a poll on what the current voter pool think.

Pfftt. Hatless' submission is way overdone and contains a butt-load of confusing bits. Simple, well made splices will always get my vote. Unless the particular overdone sprite is exceptionally well made :3

Eh I've given up on trying to work out a voting system that isn't a hassle, Top3 and Scoring work for me, but I'm not sure I'll be around for much longer anyway, not going to stick to a forum just for a bi weekly splice comp xD
Going off the tradition (Because monkey's can't be creative) it should end either on Sunday or Monday, depends on you timezone. Whoever first made a splice comp deemed that voters needed an entire week to vote xD

I guess I win then. I'm going to make you guys regret voting for me so hard with this next set. SUFFER THE LIMITATIONS OF PROPORTIONS. |
Whelp, I hope you're happy killing the splice contest. >_>
