I'm struggling to see if it's worth attempting a full FE build in it though as there are certain flaws which I'm not sure I can easily fix for my own purposes (a big one is stat cap seems universal as oppose to enforced for each unit)...but it's a fun and intuitive system. I could get a working map with all the trimmings (opening, closing, event triggers) going in a couple hours.

So, this is my first time modding a FE title. I'm curious if I could create my own starting character and perhaps even team for FE7 (or even any FE title) with it's own custom classes. weapons. etc. So it will give a different feel for the game if any of that makes sense.

Yes that certainly is possible, just isn't as easy as you may think so making a hack full with new sprites and animations may get a little much. If you got some spare time that you can spend go ahead.

EDIT:

Of course the easiest way to create a custom animation or any sprite at all is just by copy and pasting the sprites of other items that is how I made that swordsman in my gallery.

He basicly is a mercenary that has some mildly altered frames with Eliwoods head and a custom sword that has some mildly altered frames.

 

If you ever played the Last Promise you could even put more custom classes, items, maps, characters, etc than there are.

 

Best thing is if you have more people to work with you.
