@  acceptance : (04 October 2018 - 02:34 AM) TOV Definitive Edition has me pretty hyped up for the franchise right now.
@  acceptance : (04 October 2018 - 02:30 AM) Its been a while since I've been this excited to play a tales game lolol
@  acceptance : (04 October 2018 - 02:28 AM) I'm finally playing Tales of the Abyss on the PS2 and it reminds me of the first time I played symphonia. I'm loving this game!
@  xcrash1998 : (21 September 2018 - 05:46 PM) I like games that actually reward you for reaching more difficult objectives.
A good example would be the golden ballon in Super Mario Oddisey it more like a trophy and less like an in game side note of what you did.
@  Fire Blazer : (17 September 2018 - 07:13 AM) but like yeah I get more trophies/achievements in games that I just happened to play more bcuz the game itself was fun or w/e and it's like oh ok i also will get these things just through doing the stuff i wanted to do anyway, that's cool i guess lol
@  Fire Blazer : (17 September 2018 - 07:08 AM) like they don't rly hurt but they aren't something of particular value, it's kinda like a fancy alert with a title that tells u u did a thing, it's not bad but im not rly one to go out of my way to obtain the validation of a video game through something that can usually just be done via spending enough time/effort on it

(getting to like the top X% of a competitive multiplayer game or smth would be a diff story, but in that case i wouldn't even want an achievement, i feel like just getting there should feel rewarding in itself, so... yeah, lol)
@  Fire Blazer : (17 September 2018 - 07:07 AM) yeah I'm not a trophy/achievement guy lol
@  acceptance : (13 September 2018 - 10:35 PM) That's just not incentive enough for me, man.
@  acceptance : (13 September 2018 - 10:34 PM) Plus with modern gaming a lot of the time the most you can hope for if you get all the collectibles is a trophy/achievement. Which I suppose is valuable to some people, but it's not gonna add anything to the game whatsoever.
@  Fire Blazer : (12 September 2018 - 05:58 PM) like yeah sidequests with an actual crafted scenario to them, post-game dungeons that aren't TOO much grinding/rehashed content, etc. are cool
@  Fire Blazer : (12 September 2018 - 05:57 PM) yeah I only like completionist stuff if it's like meaningful content/not super grindy but usually at some point it becomes kind of annoying so meh
@  acceptance : (11 September 2018 - 01:01 AM) Gotta love unforgivingly difficult super bosses. (Looking at you, Lingering Will.)
@  acceptance : (11 September 2018 - 01:00 AM) I cannot do the whole collectible thing. It always feel so tedious. Sidequests and EX dungeons are always fun though.

I haven't played fe in a couple years but my interest was peaked by some stuff I heard about the new games. But I haven't really seen much on fe fates. People say they like it but awakenings was also getting rave reviews and I didn't like it that much. Awakening was p easy and simple, and that really turned me off. Is fates as easy as awakening, and is it a solid game in general?

fe4 and fe5 are my favorite games, for reference. I also really liked fe6-8.

Thanks, and sorry if this is the wrong forum.

Fates is pretty polarizing, the plot is pretty terrible no matter which game you get, but the gameplay varies greatly. Since you're an older fan look into Conquest and maybe give it a try. It is the most complex of the Fates games having a multitude of different map objectives and is the most challenging overall. Since you said you didn't like Awakening's simplicity then don't even touch birthright, it is basically awakening 2.0 with more boring characters IMO. If you want something weird pick up revelations after getting Conquest, the route is super gimmicky and epxerimental and plays more like a JRPG than fire emblem lol.

story is garbage. gameplay is basically awakening imo, but conquest is definitely the best as far as that goes imo. honestly it's the worst fire emblem, and the second worst tactics game i've played in general(the actual worst being langrisser 3ds which honestly might be better than fates, i'm not sure as i haven't played revelations yet which i've been told on several occasions is the worst by far.) the My Castle thing has a lot of potential which is absolutely wasted, and it ends up feeling like one of those dumb mobile city builder things. Corrin(the MC) has plot armor thicker than any other i've ever seen. no weapon durability(which may be a plus to some, but i actually like the micromanagement that comes with having weapons that break). and actually i'm gonna stop there because this could go on for awhile XD

TL:DR there's a lot for veterans of the series to complain about, but there's a chance you may end up liking it anyway. since you didn't like awakening that seems unlikely, but meh.

Fates is pretty bad, imo. The gameplay was nowhere near as fun as former games, especially not FEA's. (If you're into challenge, then maybe it'll be more fun than Fates. I don't know.) All your units have low HP and the enemies always have very high attack/magic so most of your units get 1-2HKO'd. It's awful.

Then we have the story. Ugh, the story! I don't care if you get Birthright or Conquest, but for the love of all that's good and righteous, avoid Revelation at all costs. It by far has the worst story of any video game I have ever played, and was the biggest waste of 20 bucks that I've ever spent. Totally not saying this because I am trying to convince at least one other person to not buy Revelation to make up for me buying it.
