A way to hack Awakening. And I don't mean for the sake of cheating by giving everyone Dragonskin or something. I mean the kind of hacking we see happening with GBA games. Portraits, new events and maps, new characters and story. But, the game's a bit too "advanced" for that. I doubt it would be even remotely possible, since the 3D sprites would have to be redone, and everything's a much higher resolution than GBA games. And who knows what language it's programmed in? But it'd be nice, right?

people can hack SSBB

but no one in the FE community has the motivation to put that much effort into a hack d:

you would need like

Skyrim modders to do that shit for you

...but yeah I can totally see you wanting this

I mean

you've been posting topics about playing FE:A for well over a year now

I believe in judgment of humans through their judgment of fiction, for nothing else tells better of their disposition freed from apprehension.

biggest problem is that the hacking community hasn't even cracked the 3ds yet...so no real way to test said hacks, or even make them for that matter. sure you could make portraits in the same style and have them laying about on your computer, but as far as i can tell there won't be any way to use them for another couple of years.

Clarification: there have been people who've claimed they created an emulator(all fake, hasn't happened yet), and other people are saying that they're working on ways to play 3ds games with a special type of R4(this does work under extremely specific conditions). unfortunately nothing big enough to say "we gun have one dem emu laters", and certainly not enough to do any hacking past simple homebrew.

yeah, as you know it's not very plausible soon. I imagine with enough time and effort it could happen but texture hacking is indeed difficult not just from a hacking perspective but from the perspective of "you need someone knowledgeable enough to create new textures" and such--like, sure people can hack Brawl but a TON of work was put into that and it's still not easy or anything especially for new characters, so...

It'd be cool if we got a game with editors of sorts, that could really make a fun time. Especially if you had a way to splice portraits together in-game (kinda like making Robin but with a LOT more variation to the point that you could create an entire cast of unique portraits). Oh man then you could essentially make your own campaign mode of Awakening, that would be FREAKING AWESOME! *starts thinking about it and drools*

Well, I've seen a post on some forum somewhere that someone is making a 3DS emu that he's programming from scratch. I can't remember if he was using C# or C++. He has a very basic version running that plays homebrew games, but it's still a long way from playing 3DS ROMs. I guess they made the code so hard to crack because they didn't want their games ending up like all the hacked GBA FE games.

Something like that, haha. That's cool info you picked up though. I think homebrew is easier than running edited ROMs but yeah we'll see how this goes. Not much normal people like us can do but watch (even I'm far from skilled enough to do any hardware or firmware-level hacking lol)

I hope they can pull it off. I've seen some good stuff made with C#. I found an FE game that LOOKS like a hack, but isn't. I figured out it was made with C# by looking at some things here and there. I doubt I'll ever know the language that well, since I plan on focusing my efforts on Java and later, Python, but hey, goes to show that determined people can make good things when they wanna.

anything with "C" in it i tend to stay away from. i don't really know why, but C++ and C# both feel weird to me. If you happen to see that post on that forum again about the emulator can you post a link? i'd like to check it out.

Really? C# was easy for me, mostly because it bears a resemblance to Visual Basic, which I learned at ITT Tech. C++ is the one that makes my head spin. I hear Java is similar to C# though.

Java is in fact similar to C#

I had to do some C# coding for game design and I managed to pick it up withuot a ton of trouble

Oh nice~ I self-learned a little C#, but now that I'm focused on Java I haven't pressed onward. The farthest I got with C# was validating user input, so that putting in something out range won't break the program.

But like I said I'm gonna leave that behind and learn Java. Right after I master Linux BASH scripting...

Google some ebooks on how to learn java. They'll usually tell you what tools to download to do it. I use Netbeans.

Hey if you learn Java and Network Systems Administration you can be an Oracle Database Admin. That's good money right there. 40k+ a year, and it only goes up from there.
