As usual, post your completed games here and share some quick (or long, if you feel so inclined) thoughts on your experience!

Note that some games are hard to mark as "completed", but if you beat the main story/1-player campaign/whatever, that's usually enough to consider it for this: you don't have to say, catch all Pokemon in Pokemon X to beat it, for instance, but generally if you haven't reached the credits, you probably haven't actually completed the game. (Depends though. Some games really can't be completed, in which case if you feel you've played enough, feel free to post it.)

It's fun to see what other people have beaten, not to mention it can motivate people to try/play/beat games or give people some insight into a game and opinions on what it's like, and it can just be kind of fun/satisfying for yourself to note what games you beat and when, so yeah!

General format is:

Proper Game Title, System, Full Date

I know I'm double-posting, but I like to keep the first post clean. And I know I haven't posted all my completed games from 2015, but I want to get this out of the way right now, haha. So without further adieu:

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC, PSP, January 7th, 2016

I played it on the PS Vita, but it's technically a PSP game... so yeah. I counted it as PSP. *shrugs*

I commented on this in the Game of the Year thread, but in short, it was a great game with a solid and compelling story that is also super deep and borderline overwhelming at times. My playtime was over 90 hours due to me doing almost every quest (I missed one: I'm still sour about it when I think about it...) and talking to pretty much every NPC I could constantly, some of them multiple times (this game has a TON of dialog and NPCs are always changing what they stay with their own little subplots and such, so I went out of my way to talk to them all lol).

I did get pressured a bit by this feeling that I "had to beat it soon" (I mean, I'm starting classes at my uni again... today, technically, and I'd been anticipating the game for a while so I'd feel pretty bad if it ended up getting delayed significantly longer) which hurt my experience a bit, but it's still one of the better RPGs I have played and has been an inspiration on some fronts and I'm just kind of glad it's finally over with, i.e. at least that bit of plot has been finished (who knows how many more Trails games will take place in that world through lol, I feel like the overall story isn't even half-done... >_>').

...I've been waiting on this topic to be made so I could add a game to it, but now that it's been made, I do NOT remember when I beat it. D: It was sometime last week. Augh. Should I just make up a date, or can I be vague?

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC, PSP, January 7th, 2016

...That name sounds familiar. Is that on steam? I seem to recall seeing that on steam... *CHECKS* Ah, yes. I thought I saw it on there. Then again, there are a LOT of PS games on steam, I've noticed.

January 10th LBX(3ds). Took me quite awhile to flaky beat this. Definitely worth a play if you're into mechs and customization. It plays a bit like a 3d brawler with occasional platforming elements. 8/10 with points deducted for repetitive gameplay and an extremely shallow story. Otherwise it's pretty solid all around.

haha sorry about that. you can be vague but if you can figure out the actual date, that's cool too. (I personally keep my own list with the dates so it makes it easy for me haha.)

@zac glad you liked it, though sad about the repetitive gameplay and shallow story... the latter especially since that's a common trend lately, the first has, tbh, been a trend in certain game types for a long while so I can't even act like it's a new problem or anything lol

My friend has that. He hasn't beaten it yet, and it doesn't look like he will. lol.

I'll definitely have to take notes next time. <<;

Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, PC, Sometime VERY early January.

Okay, so this is one of those open world games that probably is never COMPLETELY beaten, but I consider finishing the main quest (e.g., defeating Alduin twice) "finishing" the game. I'm still working on the other questlines, and dawnguard apparently is level-locked, but eh. The main questline is done. War on dragons is over. I win?

My biggest qualm with this game (besides the blood, which I downloaded a mod to rid of) is how HORRIFICALLY UGLY the people are. I had to download mods just to make my character presentable. ;_; And even then, if I want to play as a bishounen(sp?) I'll have to download several mods just to make it happen. Which I'm not doing because meh. I'll just play as a khajiit.

I thought the female characters looked tolerable as-is in Skyrim, though I was not having any fun dealing with ARMOR TITS on my first run.

(although amusingly most of the time I hear a guy complain about Skyrim's looks they say the guys look fine, but the girls are terrible, while when I hear a girl complain, they say the guys look terrible, and that the girls are okay. d: So much for "lore friendly" or "immersion" with all those supermodel/pornstar look mods too.)

I am not going to be biased and simply say that they BOTH look like crap.

My female character looked 60 because of the dumb face wrinkles. And none of the non-script extender beautification mods fixed the men, IMO. Needs better hairstyles, better faces, less body hair, and less bulging veins. The fact that I like bishonen and skyrim's idea of "handsome men" is big, hairy macho men doesn't really help. (Seems the community's idea of handsome men is the same thing.)

The world itself is beautiful, though.

If you do, I fully recommend finding and downloading the Unofficial Bugfix patches. There are so many bugs in the game that it's absolutely ridiculous, and the UBP fixes a good deal of those. For example, the first dragon you ever battle spawned as a generic enemy dragon without the bugfix patch, and it wasn't until after I installed the patch that I realized he was supposed to have a name and dialogue. Then I was like Midna in Twilight Princess: "He...he spoke..."

I actually got this on a steam sale, but to be honest, Aeo got me interested in it AAAAAAAAGES ago. Back then, though, I had a Windows XP comp and couldn't even consider getting the game myself.

Speaking of steam sales, I still need to beat Valkyria Chronicles. I got to chapter 7 and then just completely and totally freaked out because of how badly the odds are stacked against you. I do not handle pressure well, and the fact that there's a massive bulldozer of doom hellbent on flattening my camp just makes me panic. Plus I know that the valkyria lady will show up later on. <_<

If there's one essential mod for Skyrim, more than any bugfix, more than any UI change, more than any sweetfx filter or whatever those were called, more than anything that adds immersion or a huge amount of extra content, it's Insects Begone. (The REAL bugfix.)

Fire Emblem if: Invisible Kingdom, 3DS, January 13th, 2016

Finally beat this after dropping it some time ago due to getting busy/other games coming out/the story not keeping me interested.

The gameplay is pretty good outside of pretty much everything having to do with My Castle (minus the shops) and some gimmicky or just lackluster maps (so many maps either lack good/useful terrain [dragon vein gimmicks don't count] or the effects of terrain are just so small that it's like bleh, whatever)

The story was atrocious IMO, so cringe-worthy with such flat, predictable, tropey, and just plain poor writing that I think the game might have actually been much better without the story. Even the CG cutscenes, though they look cool, generally felt kinda pointless—the super quality cutscenes shoudl beb used to show what's too difficult in the normal game engine or add a high level of detail that would just be a pain or something to implement otherwise. Instead it was just like... disappointing.

Graphics were solid except there was way too much brown and it got kinda gross + in general the colors were super dull and I honestly just don't like the map graphics in these games as much. But mostly the game's colors are just so dull unlike the more vibrant/luminous colors of games past. I didn't like this about Shadow Dragon either and while it's not quite that bad, I still feel like it doesn't benefit the game or the atmosphere (half the game is like a shallow dating sim where the only real choice is who marries who, after all...).

Overall, not that much better or worse than Nohr, just kind of benefited from basically being the "true" route of the game >_>'. Suffered from similar problems and maybe more... bleh. Overall just leaves a poor taste in my mouth even though it has some good moments (a few great songs + some fun battles and even a few cool animations, despite also having a lot of boring ones).

now that i'm further into Fates i'm starting to get what you're talking about with your review, that post, etc. it's actually becoming a chore to play which bothers me, being such a fan of the series as a whole. idk. it feels like they dropped the ball a bit. i'm still gonna finish it, and i still enjoy the battle gameplay, but it just doesn't have the same feel as ,just for example and not because i'm totally biased, sacred stones.

1/14: "finished" mount and blade: warband. quotation marks because it's one of those games that are never truly complete. i'm considering it complete because i've conquered every town, and have every lord and companion recruited to my kingdom. took so long. not gonna play this again for like a year...or the rest of the day...whichever comes first i guess.

haha yeah, once the novelty fades away and the "feelgood" aspect (the game TRIES to make you feel good, but in some regards it feels artificial IMO) becomes noticeable/those feelings fade away (e.g. the fluffy dialog that makes the game seem more lively etc. at first, but ends up coming off as shallow/fluffy/boring later on once you've seen it all), the game starts to be a bit less impressive IMO. plus the gimmicks are a thing in some of those late chapters, haha.

still a fun game, but there's so much it's lacking and so much lost potential IMO.

I'm not good at beating games. I did, however...

ooh, nice

I still need to finish this game, sadly it's so long and my inner "I-need-to-explore-every-cranny-of-the-map" part of me comes out and prevents me from making a lot of progress when I do play it, haha... one day, hopefully this year tbh.

Well, story-wise, the "difficulty" makes sense. You're part of the common militia of a small country that is getting invaded by what is technically the Axis powers. The general of the actual military is over you, and he hates how you keep winning when he cannot, so he continuously throws you into suicide missions which you must find a way out of.

Although, the chapter I'm on now is completely and totally Alicia's fault for being dumb enough to challenge the general of the lead army and his pet valkyria.

I actually like the game quite a bit, but my horrible weakness for panicking under extreme pressure hit me kind of hard in that chapter. (The fact that I have so many other games to play, thanks to all the gift cards I got at Christmas, didn't help at all, lol. If VC was the only game I had, I would have sucked it up and beat it.)

Here I was hoping that Invisible Kingdom would be a better alternative to the other two paths, which seem horrifically tragic.

ahh yeah, that makes sense. I'm personally ok with plot-related difficulty or difficulty spikes to some extent, so long as it's within reason. I mean, when you think about it, bosses are basically plot-induced difficulty spikes, are they not? :P

now that the PS4 remaster is a thing though, I might just give up my PS3 copy... buh... why did I buy a game like that when I wasn't even going to seriously attempt to beat it anytime soon... >_>' man, glad I'm slightly less of a moron now.

The thing is, at least for me, the other two routes really weren't that tragic. Granted, I didn't play Hoshido and I only got spoiled by who dies thanks to some freaking idiot bastards on YT who think it's ok to just give it away either by the title or thumbnail, but assuming it's basically parallel to the deaths in Nohr, the execution was done so poorly for me I couldn't really give a crap. I mean, yeah, it's kinda sad, but it could have been about 1000x times sadder if things weren't developed so poorly, IMO, and I instead actually got to know the characters besides their core trait/relation to the main character (your Avatar).

And in a way Invisible Kingdom is

Spoiler

EDIT:

Actually, I was kinda looking for this thread to post about 2 more games, and then didn't really realize I was in it (clicked on it via a notification) and almost didn't do what I intended to... haha

Race the Sun, PS Vita, January 15th, 2016
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, 3DS, January 17th, 2016

Thoughts:

- Solid game. Wasn't going to play it, actually, but thought about it and decided to. Don't regret it. It's a simple game where you basically fly a solar-powered bird and try to catch up to the sun while avoiding obstacles. By meeting objectives you gain levels which adds more to the game such as accessories or new pick-ups or such, and that lets you get further into the game, etc. etc., so it's a basic formula but I found it to be pretty fun regardless. For a free PS+ game, solid and I don't regret playing it in the end.

- Going to copy/paste things I said elsewhere to conserve time:

"Finally beat The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time."
[2:12:17 AM] ballin1337: The 3D version.
[2:12:53 AM] ballin1337: If I wanted to cry, it'd be because I finally finished this game I've been wanting to finish for such a long while. I didn't really enjoy it/I didn't think it was a great game, but nonetheless with everyone praising it/it being such a classic, I wanted to finish it anyway.
[2:15:07 AM] ballin1337: I kinda get why people like it so much, but it just wasn't there. Too many things I didn't like, from the story-telling to the character designs to the backtracking to the often boring music (I only found a few of the songs good, fight me—I'm used to games with amazing, adrenaline-rushing or super catchy music or the like so this just doesn't appeal to me much).
[2:22:05 AM] ballin1337: Now I just need to beat WWHD and ALBW and I'm finally caught up on this series. (As if I'll do that in time for the new Zelda... thank goodness I'm not interesting in Majora's Mask 3D or Twilight Princess HD.)

So, yeah. That's that. XP

4 games beaten so far this year, not off to a bad start but to beat over 100 I'll have to keep this pace up, and that seems unlikely given all the RPGs on my backlog, haha. Well, the most important thing is that I'm making progress—in all honesty, I probably won't beat 100 games this year, and that's perfectly fine/not that important to me (I just thought it'd be cool to do it eventually... also, last year was a bit of a disappointment for me, with only 51 games beaten), and also there's the problem of "do I even have 100 games I want to beat?" to which the answer is "yes, but I'd need to dish out a looot more money before I get there", haha. My backlog of games I have but haven't beaten is big but it's not 100 games big, which I suppose is a good thing—I feel like I've been making progress, despite the fact that I'm always just adding more games to my backlog, so it's like a never-ending queue... >>' XP

(despite all my ranting though, it's fun playing games and fun trying to catch up on my backlog, so while I'd like to finish eventually so I can maybe not feel overwhelmed by the amount of games I'd like to play, it's not too bad. =P)

Man, you are on a roll! I need to step it up and beat the games I bought. Maybe I'll spend today playing Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon.

(I'm having a hard time getting drawn into this one, though, which is sad for a Mystery Dungeon game. The fact that you are SO BLARINGLY CONSIDERED A KID RIGHT FROM THE START really doesn't help me to immerse myself into the game and believe the Pikachu I'm playing as, is actually me. The game handwaves this by making the main character go "Do I look like a kid to the Pokemon of this world?" but their behavior falls more into the line of a child's at times and is completely against what I would do. :/ )
