Otherwise, he kept getting messages like "This video contains content from Toei Animation JP, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds." Uh...youtube? This isn't an anime. It's a commercial...

hmm, I still think that's kinda silly but I guess if Toei Animation really did make the animation, then they still have the copyright to it regardless of whether it's in an anime or commercial, so for whatever reason they couldn't show it in that region >_>'

honestly, I am of the opinion that youtube has some kind of robotic method to find these things. I once got a copyright notice for an LP video because it detected "copyrighted material." In a GBC game. Granted, I don't know how it would figure out animations versus music, but eh. Youtube tends to just be trigger-happy with copyrights.

 

But yeah. I mean, the commercial directly from Ford's account could have been blocked from the Ford's channel settings, since it was an American commercial. The second video...yeah, I have no clue on that one.

That's cause it's done by bots. That's why there are so many wack content ID claims that reasonably rile people up. They don't have people look for the stuff, just have a bot match it to something and if it matches removes it.

I figured something of the sort. When my Pokemon Silver playthrough got flagged for copyrighted music, I was pretty miffed. Since it was an LP I was able to file a claim and use the "I have personalized this" clause to get the copyright flag off my back. It's one thing to flag you for a recent game with an actual released soundtrack, but that was POKEMON SILVER. It's ANCIENT. And no Official Soundtrack CD's exist for it! And they flagged like 5 seconds of a random battle tune that was deep within the video, which was the weirdest part. I had like 5 minutes of video before that, and you focus on that 5 seconds? That just screams "bot."

 

That was before the more recent system, though. Not sure what they do nowadays if they detect copyright. I think they add ads for any minor copyright infringements.

Nowadays quite  a few companies just have them slap ads on it and get the video's ad revenue from it. While it can be scummy in some cases at least it's better than removing the stuff.

yeah, the bots feel like they can be a bit out of control sometimes, lol. and in general it can be a bit annoying/frustrating dealing with YT, especially as a content creator, doubly so if you do thiings like covers or commentary for games or the like (since not everyone is friendly with you using their games/songs/whatever), but meh. I don't know what to say, really. >_<
