lol interesting

to be blunt, vague, and unhelpful, it needs a lot of work, but I'll give props for the effort and obvious attention to detail, it looks like a full custom too, am I right?

I'm aware it needs to be fixed, that's a lot more unhelpful then you would think, but yeah, it's made from scratch.

You got the clothes to be pretty accurate, at least. The shading and collar detail could use some messing with, of course, but otherwise, I'd say that you did well on them for a FC. One thing I would suggest for the face is making the chin line thingy under the mouth less pronounced- I feel that that would give Morgan more of a "young" vibe.

SUDDENLY A YEAR LATER.

Still need to fix up derpgan up there. But I always seem to be making new things instead of fixing old things... Chrom is the perfect example of this.

...Yeah, that's basically it, but placing something here so the post isn't just worthless.

The purple haired girl kinda makes me think of a younger female version of Canas. I think your first mug of Marth is the best one, looks really cool and imposing biggrin.gif. As for any suggestions on improvement, I'd say the main thing is working on making the outlines cleaner, particularly on the face and neck of the girl. The hair should also be casting more shadows on the skin (not so much on Marth, it's fine there). Did you make these from scratch or are they splices?

Huh, that's a first.

I'll keep that in mind for whenever I update her then... Which I hope I will.

Eve (The not-Marth) used to be an edit, but it's been so heavily edited that I may as well just call it a scratch, Marth is scratch though.

QUOTE (Tenebrae Candidae @ May 3 2014, 07:37 AM)
The Marth has the wrong nose angle since he's almost completely facing straight at us instead of his head being left or right.

The official FE mugs have the same problem sometimes too, though. (Possibly only due to pixel art limitations making it hard to do so otherwise while still making it look good.) I think the best one to reference for his face would be Limstella.

I'll need to play around with that, then.
QUOTE (Tenebrae Candidae @ May 3 2014, 07:37 AM)
Eve's clothes under the cape are also much too lacking in shading, and the sleeves should have some level of creasing.

Right then.
QUOTE (Tenebrae Candidae @ May 3 2014, 07:37 AM)
I like how the hair was done on Marth.

Thanks~

There's something mysteriously off about them that makes them not seem as smooth as they could be BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS. The anti-aliasing is about as good as it's going to get and the lineart isn't crudely done as far as I can tell.

Best guess is the colors (how dark/light/saturated they are.)

also have you been..."referencing" Merc's stuff for the femzerker

I don't think I did, but I may have subconciously thought about his stuff as I was working on her.

Is it okay if I try to fix the mad hatter, I'm considering brushing up on my pixel art skills but can't be bothered to make an entire mug atm just to practice.

MadHatter.png

Left one is mine.

While working on it (and having it zoomed beyond 800%) I noticed there was a more to refine than I had initially been led to believe, but considering how quickly and smoothly I could improve it (18-20 minutes) it proves that there weren't really any serious issues with how it was drawn overall.

I tried to keep as much of the original aesthetic as possible, but I think the mood she gives off kind of changed anyway. The higher contrast probably adds to this the most, with the green also being desaturated to make it blend in better with the now darkened red part of her hair. Also, since the hat uses the same colors as her hair without a darker shade to separate them, I used the outline to make it more distinct from the hair. I also used the outline on the ribbon because of how few colors it had to work with for how much it was trying to do, in general, if your outline is anywhere on the inside of your image already, it doesn't change that much to add some more of it unless it's on a light area.

The blue part however is changed to make the difference between the two shades less drastic, as the only reason you should really have them be that different without it being white is if you don't have much of a choice (from color compromise because of the 16 color limit) or if you are shading something shiny like polished metal. (I'm actually not sure what the blue part of her hat is actually made of, but considering its size I imagine it's probably some form of cloth.) The greens on the clothes are distributed in a way that makes them seem rather metallic(or at least like shiny leather) as well, but it looks good/not awkward enough that I don't think it has to be changed.

I would say that the color choice and distribution of the original is planned out fairly well, but generally speaking outside of really small or simple areas being forced to use only 2 colors (like the ribbon) can be detrimental to the look of your sprite.

Huh. Intriguing. I like it, haha.

I have been thinking of changing the ribbon to the pink, but I'm not too sure yet.

The white/blue on the hat is indeed a cloth. Aside from the tea-card in her hat, that's paper. Haha.

I might elaborate on this later, depends on things. Just too tired to say too much currently.
